A super beat - our first time here - thank you to the WUF team for the advice! Definitely one to come back to - easy access, nicely maintained, nice setting and some great fishing.
Warm, humid day with a mix of sunshine and the odd spattery shower. Low water. The odd fish showing on the surface to give encouragement - a few slashing rises and a couple of fish rising persistently - with periodic hatches including the occasional may fly.
All the main pools produced fish - with 2 from the Stone Catch among the boulders on dry flies (rusty klink and grey wulff - with another fish lost and a couple missed), 4 from Lady Alexanders Catch and 2 from the Abernant Stream. Plenty of other chances missed as well. Downstream weighted nymphs in small sizes were the most productive approach today as the fish generally sought cover in the deeper faster sections.

Lovely piece of water. Very low but this does help move around the river easier. 6 fish in total, big shoal of barbel watched for a while up at the very top.of the beat. Double figure fish.
A beat to return to.

Varied weather conditions - cold and overcast in the morning and clearing becoming warm as the day progressed - with low water levels, suggested we might have been in for a challenging day. We both used nymphing rigs and found the fish in the faster water. All hooked on the point fly which in both cases was a hare's ear pattern. The 3 'other' were salmon parr.

Fist time for me on this wonderful beat. River running clear and low. All fish taken on nymphs in faster flowing water. Lots of insect activity and a few rises here and there.

Another trip to the fantastic Abernant.
This time accompanied by "Jr" to attempt to lure him away from the darkside of carp and catfish. Unfortunately the fish refused to play ball, despite a few smaller fish showing in Lady Alexander's. Did manage to rise a couple, but nothing stuck.
River low and very clear. But there was a lot of filamentous algae in the shallows.
A swirly mostly downstream wind made casting difficult, especially for a first timer.
Wildlife bonuses, an egret and a stoneloach in the shallows.

Bright, warm day, river reasonable height although a few extra inches on the gauge would have been nice. Took two beginners for their first taste of river fishing. Never tied on so many flies in my life, but worth every minute. Both newbies caught - nothing better than seeing the joy on someone's face when they catch their first wbt in such a beautiful environment. 7 wbt in total, best about 14", all returned safely.
Significant hatches throughout the day - March browns, LDOs and the odd yellow mayfly.
