2 Trout

A beautiful day to the immersed in the Welsh spring. The river was too low to be at its best and very bright. Some March browns hatching, but the trout didn’t react. A few fish rising sporadically to large dark olives. 1 nice trout of around a pound caught and returned.

A few large fish seen at the bottom of deep pools probably feeding on caddis on the rocks. Very bright. Fished from 3-5pm. A couple of rising fish seen in very slow water, but not having any of it. More flow would have helped. Eutrophication evident on the bed of the river some distance downstream of the STW due to low flow and phosphate in the discharge causing algal growth.

Early season is not worth fishing the higher lakes.

Not the best start, wind was a bit all over the place, tried most of the usual wets but not even a tug. Did see a couple caught by someone else.

Decent hatch of march browns, LDOs and brook duns from 11am for a bit. Though no fish hit the surface.

Only obliging fish were Trout, in excellent conditions.

Beat plagued by canoes, dogs, and even horses/riders in the river n March, and mid-week. This is not a day-time fishing beat, only early morning and evening.

One grayling and one electric shock.
First time here and found access to fishable spots hard going due to fences , fallen trees etc . Glorious first day of Spring headed back early for a restorative beer.
