Fished visit to Abernant with the level at approx 1'6". Fished through Lady Alexanders catch a few times but other than a few trout, one of which must have been close to two pounds, I didn't see any salmon. Moved up to the top of the beat at lunch time and caught a 4lb grilse just starting to colour on a 1 inch cascade tube in the Edw pool. Lost a slightly larger fish 20 minute later.

Very nice fishing, grayling were quite easy to catch taking anything with pink on, couple came up for the dry. Weather was rubbish the river flooded and I got stuck on the other side, very dangerous.

River still up a bit and really zipping through on this beat but the clarity was still quite good. All fish caught nymphing using various methods. The bottom section was a lot easier to fish than the top, as it was just a little too deep to get out into the river. Grayling to 14"( half were over 12") and trout to 10" plus several parr that I didn't count.

Water was more coloured than I expected and though the Llanstehan gauge showed under two feet it felt like the river was pushing through quite swiftly. Two decent size trout of about 14" with other fish all round the 6-8" mark including four parr. All but one took a wet fly with a touch of red or burnt orange fished as middle dropper, takes being close to the surface. Almost nothing actually broke the surface all day.

What a lovely still calm day. 10 degrees water and 14 degrees air. So where were the PWs and LDOs? Well, very few and even fewer rising fish. Bugged for much of the day with fish taken on pink shrimp and FBPTN. Also cast to the odd rise with a Grayling Steel Blue which raised more fish than took risers. What a great search pattern the GSB is in the foam at this time of year for ladies reluctant to get off their butts! Grayling from 10-15" and OOS trout around 12 inches by both methods. No fishing now for a while, then it will surely be time for worm swimming lessons!

Fish hard to come by. Water felt quite cold and peaty as it has been all summer. First time for a long time I have been cold fishing. Intermittent rises but nothing steady, few flies hatching throughout day. Managed 3 grayling and 1 trout at approx 10" - rest all small up to 6". Caught mainly on GSB, one was on a small unweighted ptn and one on a klink when fishing duo. Best fish came from Abernant Stream. Even waded out in Stone Catch but nothing.
Tried dry fly, duo and heavy bugs in head of the Catch.
Packed up when the British Army turned up en masse for a full battledress and equipment crossing of Lady Alexander's Catch. It also explained why field was trampled at 9am when I arrived and fishing has been so poor in the whole of the Catch - they had done one exercise there early morning already!
