River conditions were excellent, with water levels good and weather fair. Some rises first thing. Began with a dry fly and took a number of grayling and one trout on the central pool. Then switched to a team of spiders on a long leader, on the the advice of guide Oliver Burch, and took the majority of grayling and one larger trout weighing approx one and a quarter pounds. Lastly finished off with czech nymphs and took the remainder of smaller grayling.
This was the first time using the foundation, and I have found it a great service, with a huge selection of waters to choose from. Next time I'm in the region I will definitely be booking beats through the foundation.

The Abernant is a good beat for trout and grayling fishing (and from time to time with higher water levels it can be a place for the occasional salmon). It fished particularly well for me and while I used nymphs for most of the day I fished dry flies during the late afternoon and despite numerous rising fish I was not able to catch any on the dry. So all in all happy days on the Wye again.

35" coloured hen from Abernant Stream; #8 Cascade, 6ft fast sink polyleader and 5ft flurocarbon leader. First Wye salmon and first ever on fly. Took on 3rd cast of the day at 10am, with another coloured fish seen running through shortly afterwards. Fished Lady Alexanders in the afternoon for two WBT (0.75lb and 1lb approximately). Lovely beat with great fly water.

Spent a very enjoyable day on this beat with Oliver Burch. Bright conditions, water clear and a downstream wind. Not a great deal rising. Had 4 grayling to 14" and one trout of 10" and a number of salmon parr on spiders and grey duster.

All grayling fell to dry flies from large mayfly pattern (on duo set-up) down to tiny grey wulf fished as a single dry. Water very clear today and no trout in evidence. Wonderful afternoon on the river & what a magnificent herd of cattle on the bank; cows, calves & bull all looked in 'tip-top' condition grazing in the sunshine.
..Oh ..and Mark.. after you had left (at about 17:30hrs) a salmon started to move just where you had been fishing before leaving! I wish I'd brought my salmon rod.
Many thanks WUF.
