Again a blank. Appears to be fish throughout the length but ignored my flies. Mick took water temperature at 68F and air at 62F..... could this be my reason for my lack of success?

Some algae in the river which is clearing, the level was fine for fishing and is falling again. There are fish there especially the Corner Stone and the Van Stone pools but they were not interested in a fly.

Conditions seemed good, a little colour in the water, fish showing - none taking. Lovely beat.

River at 0.25m on EA Ross gauge with remains of 2” freshet and water at 68°F / 18°C, with a dirty orange brown colour (algae bloom or potato field wash off?) making visibility less than 12” – with thin layer of silt on all the gravel. Needs a good flood to wash it clean.
Four experienced anglers fly fished from early until late with all types and sizes of flies and methods, but no success. Saw many (30+) fish of all sizes in all the main pools throughout the day, both residents and travellers, but could not tempt them.

Back from the river without wetting a line by 06:00. Water temperature well in excess of 70F and running an algal bloom the colour of unmilked builder's tea. I do not believe these conditions safe for the fish, or indeed old fogies like my wife and I.

I x 15lbs salmon caught on a Mepps. not fresh run. River disappointingly coloured, some fish seen. Mick Sutton very helpful not only with knowledge of the beat and lies but also general tips on tackle and fishing techniques.
