Ah what a lovely day, the weather was a bit rainy but at least it wasn't cold.. The water conditions were great considering the Ithon was flooded when we drove past it.
Fishing was a bit tough but we managed 3 small brownies and one 14" out of season Grayling (quickly released)
The fish mostly came to Pheasant Tails and beaded Hares Ear variations.

My first fly fishing on river. No fish landed, but great experience. Extraordinary scenery and clean water today. Fishes start be active on surface only for 1 hour around 12:30. Tried everything: 2 nymphs / 1 dry + 1 nymph / ugly bugger on pulling…back soon.

My first time on this lovely beat. I had read quite a bit about its superb winter grayling fishing and was chomping at the bit to give it a go. Now, I’m quite an experienced Euro nymphing devotee and after walking the beat was quietly confident that I would find a few fish. Four hours or so of concentrated effort rather put me in my place. Not a single fish to the net. I don’t know why I failed and if I were returning tomorrow I would probably fish the same areas in the same manner. So, I have a lot to ponder - but isn’t that one of the reasons our sport is so wonderful that we can never assume success and ultimately the river always has the final word. Would I return ? Definitely. I have a lot of answers to resolve.
