After reading some reports about how slippery conditions were underfoot, nothing could prepare us for this. It’s extremely slippery, studs and staff are a must, the water is very refreshing at the bottom of your waders..
This beat is simply stunning and you could be anywhere in the world.
Fishing was tough with only 1 fish to show for are efforts.
Will return but this time with a change of clothes.

This was the 3rd visit to Craig Llyn, previous 2 trips blanked.
The owner Sean and his friend Simon asked me to join them yesterday for a days fishing. What a fantastic experience. They were incredibly helpful, for those that know Simon, will know that he is a reserved type of person. But once he opens up, his knowledge sorted me out. Both of their knowledge was invaluable. After being with them for just 15 minutes I caught my first fish. Thanks for your patience boys. I would recommend anyone spends an hour or a day with Sean the owner or both to improve your fishing. The day with them both was invaluable. Many thanks. Regards Nigel

Only fished the afternoon. Nice height, water colour and overhead conditions but cooler and downstream wind made presentation difficult. No rise to speak of though pale wateries and stone flies about. Stuck to French leader but struggled to get takes. Biggest grayling 39cms. Two otters seen at close range. Watched one shoot the fast water by the island. The other swam to within 10 metres of me before diving and swimming past submerged. Two stand of Japanese knotweed on the island. Stayed dry, unlike my first visit; glad I made that wading staff.

Having parked at the caravan park we made our way down to the river, and when you get your first look you see the true power of the river as it crashes through the upper falls on the beat.
Having walked downstream to the end of the beat we fished back upstream and at 4pm were facing a blank on the dry flies. Nymphs or wets may have produced fish, but with the season coming to an end for the dries, we were determined to catch off the top. In an act of desperation a grayling steel blue was attached, resulting in a grayling of around 12 inches. My fishing partner described it as like scoring a goal with your arse. They all count, especially when there's nothing on the board.
Persistence in some very typical Welsh weather produced a target fish as a wbt of around 12 inches came to a Grenwells Glory. The rocks on this beat are incredibly slippery and studs are a must, with us both only narrowly missing a dunking on a couple of occasions

Our first time on this beat as our favourite – Doldowlod – had another rod on. Craig Lynn is a cracking beat – so much fishy water. But it wasn’t easy….and where were the grayling? The river was very cold and dropped 2-3” over the day – dam release water perhaps? The fish weren’t happy and there were very few rises, not sure any of the fish we caught was cast to as a rising fish.
Our usual parachute ginger quill rarely lets us down however but it was hard work for the 10 fish we had – only 2 grayling and 8 trout, several of which were around 12 inches, bigger of the grayling was 14". However….I was fishing with a size 16 greenwells parachute, there were small olives hatching but no interest apart from the tree on the far bank which grabbed it. So new tippet on, changed back to size 14 ginger quill…first cast it drifted along just outside the treeline and started to drag just as it passed the last tree at which point it disappeared in to a hole in the water – as if someone had pulled a plug out! Everything went solid until the fish realised he was hooked, there was a big swirl and …Some rude language followed – apologies to anyone in the vicinity. Reckon that fish was at least 3lbs…it wasn’t the 2.5lb tippet that failed but the 3lb tapered leader!
Most action was in 10 minutes as the evening came but the sun briefly arrived. – as at Doldowlod in July. I do wonder if the dam water being so cold puts the fish down? From the catch return seems the rod on Doldowlod had a similar day.
But a great beat to which we will return. Couldn’t see a book to leave a catch return as per beat instructions so hope this suffices.
