A lovely overcast day on a relatively clear river. Seven chub caught. Two around 4lb and a surprise perch on maggot of 3lb 4oz - delighted with that!

Oh dear, that's not a good result for this beat. conditions perfect weather perfect i know the beat well and have always caught plenty of grayling here, but not today !. Fished the bottom beat ( every inch of it ) 9 till 5 fished it well in my opinion but it seemed void of fish. Struggled at Buith yesterday as well but still managed half a dozen. I guess the river is just not on at the moment?

A great day,on an excellent stretch of river. The fishing was a bit slow, despite the conditions looking perfect, but we managed a few fish. Standard feeder tactics doing the job today, with attempts at trotting not fruitful, due to a woeful lack of skill. Can thoroughly recommend the Castle Lodge Hotel in Ross-on-Wye for accommodation while visiting the river.

We decided to fish the downstream end of the beat which meant a fair walk with a steady incline up and round the top of the wood and down a steep finish to the river ( which therefore was a fair push up hill on the way back, travel light!).

Having walked the first field and also into the wood to find the Lucky Stone swim (which is the only swim we could find in the wood) we decided to settle into the first two swims before the wood. My swim (the second one ) could have been enhanced and opened up with a bit of maintenance to remove a small tree that had grown out into the river.

Bites were at a premium and only 2 chub were caught coming in a short spell in early afternoon, both to meat.

Most of the chub came on bread with just one on boilie and one on pellet. Not a lot of choice of swims, especially if there were 4 booked on and there are anglers fishing the opposite bank. Fished 4 swims on the upper section and 2 on the lower.
