Arrived at 5.15am, light drizzle and very humid, with weather set to improve later that morning. River was very low and gin clear, I walked from the car park to the top end of the beat trying to find any fishable spots but very few were found, I settled in the small beach area opposite the island as this looked a prime spot. Fished for about 3 hours and only two bites before contemplating a move, wound the rod in and walked up the beat to find another spot, on returning found two ladies wild swimming in my peg !! they very apologetic but they said they had no where else to access the water.
Worked my way back to the viaduct where I knew there were one or two accessible swims only to find there were anglers on the opposite side and not wanting to encroach on their water I opted to walk the bottom section where to river slowed in the hope of finding a suitable spot, having trudged a @ 1/2 mile and no swims found I returned to the viaduct and decided to call it a day early .
Blank saved with a nice 4.5lb Chub ..

A great early season day on the wye, have been fishing this beat for a few years now and I must say this is the worst I have seen the access. We did however manage to get down to the river and with the river not carrying to much water we were able to set up in the shallows. Fish came throughout the day with a quiet couple of hours at the hottest point. All came to feeder tactics. Although we had a decent days fishing if the water levels were any higher we would not have had enough bank space to put down two chairs, such a shame usually such a well looked after beat.

River and weather conditions looked perfect for some float fishing and I wasn't disappointed. A very good average size at around 3 to 4lb with half a dozen closer to 5lb. All fish unhooked in the river and didn't use my landing net once . Thanks to WUF and Colin .

Nice venue. Swims well kept. Very hot day, but fished ok.
Will return for another visit.

Daytime high of 24°C; 13°C at 10 p.m.
Dry-fly fishing from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.: 20 grayling and 5 trout. Best catches: one 40 cm trout and two 40 cm grayling.
BWO and emerger patterns used. Water levels perfect.

River looked perfect and good to see the weed returning,fishing was tough but first time on this stretch so a lot to learn. As Simon from Tiverton said that hill down is a killer and obviously worse coming back up. I'm mid sixties and fairly fit but really struggled even without any gear when I went back to the car for lunch.
Question for fishing passport: is there any way in from the top of the beat where it is flat?

Fishing Passport Note : In answer to the question... no. There are usually agreements in place between land and fishery owners on access routes which must be adhered to

Nymphing for a few hours, PTN and GRHE, nothing seen, nothing caught today.

Fished the river all day had one fish take a swipe at he lute close to the bank in the morning but seen nothing else after. Enjoyable day
