7 x grayling 12-16 inches, on a team of leaded wet flies fished at range. A very cold and foggy day in the valley, with the sun just peeping over the mountain about 2 in the afternoon for a short period. Air temperature 1-4 degrees. Water at mid-level and very clear now. Quite hard work, but the very occasional grayling was rising and the takes (many missed) were mostly in mid-water. Grayling Steel Blue on the top dropper got most of them.

First trip of 2017 turned out to be a difficult cold day, in low clear water conditions. Deep nymphing, which we considered would probably be the most productive method, produced just 1 grayling, 1 oos trout, and a small salmon kelt. The day was saved somewhat by a small flurry of activity as a few Large dark olives drifted past, and caught the attention of a couple of decent sized grayling. 5, I think were taken on dry olive patterns before the wind, and failing light put a stop to activities. A good day to be out though, on what is a fantastic upper Wye beat.

A good day on a lovely bit of water up at Craig Lyn with some nice grayling on nymphs & dries up to a 1 1/2lb or so with the odd trout & a small kelt cock salmon in the mix too. Nice to meet the owner - Sean top bloke - will be back again.

The temperature gauge read minus seven on arrival and four hours later read minus two. One 12 inch grayling from Ash Tree pool seemed a good reason for a complete novice to call it a day and head for some warmth. Beautiful countryside and river, will return on a warmer day.

I fished as a guest of the owner of the stretch. The fishing was hard with a lot of search fishing. We covered a lot of water trying to find a pod of grayling. There was a lot of salmon parr, there were also two large salmon going around on the surface in one of the pools, a lovely sight to watch.

Beautiful beat, well maintained and perfect for a grayling day. River looked to be flushed through following last week's rain and was very clear. Wading here is mixed with some impossibly deep pools and slippery bedrock, but it's possible to get a line to plenty of good looking spots. Managed 16 grayling, best was 19", and 3 trout. Most fell to a pink shrimp or ptn red tag. There was a hatch around mid-day and for half an hour grayling were rising all over the pool and I took 8 on the same olive emerger pattern.
Struggled a bit with cold hands and feet today and needed to take frequent breaks to thaw out, but well worth it.
