Beat:Usk Town Water
Fishing:Trout (River)

Pulled upto the river about 10:30 and took one look and had a feeling it was going to be a very challenging day!
Water was chocolate brown quite high and the current was very strong. I tried various areas along the upper section of the beat but could only go about 2-3m in from the bank as the current was so strong and I didn’t fancy being washed down to Newport!
Nothing rising at all and not a lot of insect life about just drips and drabs.
Eventually after about 6 hours or so I packed up in a huff and sulked all the way home.
Clearly because of all the rain the conditions really weren’t ideal so will have to come back another day!

An iffy weather day. Couple fish landed from the swim at the far end of the beat but the dead tree swim proved to be most productive.

Area:Middle Wye
Beat:Sugwas Court
Fishing:Coarse
No. of Anglers:2
Last visited Sugwas some years ago. What a huge disappointment today's visit was. Walked the whole beat. Zero fish able swims. Electric fencing tight to the river. Overgrown everywhere. This is NOT "wild fishing". Left fishery without wetting a line. Disappointed as made a special journey from Norfolk.

Area:Middle Wye
Beat:Middle Ballingham & Fownhope No.8
Fishing:Coarse
No. of Anglers:1
All barbel came in first 45 minutes from upstream top end., biggest 5.10. Three chub followed by 1.30, roved after that with no result. River started to rise late morning and soon followed debris which made life tricky. Left at 5.30. Nice to see colour in the river. Rising past 0.6m at Ross when I left
3 Barbel, 3 Chub
