Lovely day out in the water, weather was overcast and about 6C. 2 OOS trout from my first 5 casts just below the church on the slow water, both on size 18 silver ptn under dry as indicator. All grayling taken on same fly above the church upto the weir. Also spotted what I think was a salmon laying just above the rapids below church.

2 Trout, 4 Grayling

Good last day on a river for 2024. Netted x6 grayling (+ 1 osBT). Hooked another x4 grayling that came off plus x2 large osBT. x2 netted grayling good size with x4 being standards. 1 as pictured with very distinctive scar on left flank and maybe identified if caught again.

Shrimp patterns worked the best.

Water very clear and has been steadily dropping over the past 5 days. Most grayling seemed to be in deeper sections of runs not pools or riffles.

0830-1530 session with a break for lunch at 1300. x4 grayling AM with x2 PM. All fish from below “no fishing section”. Lot of otter prints visible in lower section and a few dippers seen.

One barbel and a chub caught from the middle of the beat Both on small pellets.
A lovely beat - excellent instructions and banks well maintained.
Some slippy banks but nothing too extreme

River low clear and cold, blue skies and sun knew a struggle was the order of the day but pleasantly surprised with 10 nice chub throughout the day on feeder, better than the expected blank!

Plenty of grayling up to 1 1/4 lbs. All on French nymphs. Nice stretch of water, but a huge amount of litter and rubbish in and around the water.

Water still pushing through, so not that many swims fishable but managed to hook 4 grayling and get 2 to the net on trotted maggot. 6-12”

Fantastic Day on my favourite beat. River was at 1.3m when I arrived. I Was after an elusive December Barbel and today I had 5. Biggest was 11Ib 15oz and rest were between 5Ib to 8Ib. Fantastic end to 2024.

Avery pleasant day....
Banks and trees have taken a beating after recent storms. Had a couple of chub early doors then nothing . Many thanks to Steffan who advised on a maybe better swim. Plenty of mixed size chub followed and then at dusk, of course, a real beauty of a barbel gave..." me a grab your rod quick !!"moment!! Nice way to end the day and the year on the bank.
