With on-off rain all afternoon, not the best weather for dry fly.
However, with a size 16 parachute adams I manage to raise/hook each of the three trout that were rising, but sadly did not manage to land any of them.
Lovely beat, not sure why I have not been there for so long, but accessibility becomes a problem after the second bend by the road.

Thankfully the rains yesterday put a modest degree of fresh water in to the system. The sun came out during the afternoon and promoted some fly activity. I caught two small WBT on a size 16 Klinkhammer Special. My first visit to fish the River Wye and hopefully not the last. Beautiful surroundings, but it does help when the sun shines!

Arrived at the fishery around 7am. Within five minutes of starting to fish the rain began followed quickly by a strengthening wind. The river was very shallow with only a few deeper areas to fish. Tried the full length of the beat using French leader techniques but without any success. I had intended to fish my way back to the car but by this time the rain and wind prevented any further fishing. Did I enjoy myself...yes. Did I get wet....yes. Will I return....definitely yes.

Did not see one fish over 2cm move all day despite good conditions. Seeing kingfishers and dippers was some consolation. Easy access and wading made for a relaxing day.

Had a full day on this stretch, and did not have a take between us. It is easy to wade and fish, the weather was ok, water level was ok, maybe it was just us. However would not book this beat again.
Apologies for tardy response, only arrived back this afternoon.

I had booked Abernant and took a peek at 10am. I shouldn't have bothered as surely a wash-off with the Llanstephan gauge over 3 foot! However, predicting a no-go I had booked Upper Glochfaen as a contingency and Abernant was on the way. 45mins further North into mid-Wales proper and a very different Wye at Upper Glochfaen.
I could see a very high debris line from the days before but the river was dropped and very clear. I fished for 5 hours and was very cautious with wading as per WUF instruction. Tried a variety of Grayling wet fly with teams up to three and also experimented with a floating strike-indicator. No fish caught, felt or seen, but I enjoyed the day and because I was looking at my feet a lot, I did spot what I presume was a Salmon Redd in fairly shallow water - quite impressive.
I very much prefer dry fly fishing and today exposed my lack of knowledge and experience with wet fly techniques. Perhaps time for a guided lesson?

Hard fishing in high water. 3 salmon seen running upstream.
