Tried a hares ear - no go, then dry F-fly which awakened things up a little. More water in river, but changeable weather unhelpful. Nice place.

Very impressive beat in good condition and well maintained, although water a little low, nice surroundings with easy access, overall very enjoyable. Lower beat best for the agile. Lost one of the largest grayling I have ever seen. Even the owner of the beats stopped to give advice. This is definitely a place to return to.

Hard going in the morning but things picked up mid afternoon. Plenty of fish rising, mainly to tiny stuff that was impossible to match. A few larger olives were coming off however which interested a few fish in my emerger patterns.
All the grayling were around the pound mark and exceptional fighters. Nice beat that I will definitely fish again.

We got 5 trout sized 10 to 11" on dry flies, Adams and EHC, and 2 impressive Grayling sized 14 to 15" on wet flies. Dozens of fish hooked on flies but we could not land most of them. All fish landed were safely returned to the river. Water was very clear and the river was so beautiful. We had not realized until we got there that this beat is split in two halves with a protected spawning area in-between where fishing is not allowed. The lower end of the spawning area was unclear and we could not find any sign of it. There is no written explanation about the spawning zone on the beat summary we got from WUF. So I suggest WUF to add the explanation to the beat summary. Apart from that, the river is so beautiful and stunning. Many thanks to WUF.

Very disappointing day. Contrary to advice following heavy rain a few days before, the river was very low and absolutely no chance of a salmon being in there. But it was a very beautiful spot and a great place for a picnic, so will return to try again.

It is a fantastic place to fish for grayling, with dry fly one, parachute adams.
I don't like graylings so then I tried with a elk hair fly and I caught three trout, and one some more grayling. It is a great spot to fish this time of year. Tricky to wade in some places.

River unfishable downstream on previoulsy booked beat so a quick stop at the WUF office got us a day at Dolgau. Immaculately maintained beat with some lovely salmon pools. Very kind and helpful owner. No sign of any fish and water began to colour up as we arrived.

My first visit to the lower part of this beat. I have fished Glanrhos stretch for about 12 years. River clear with the last bit of fresh fining down. Bright sunshine with a few clouds. Saw 5 fish rise all day, two of which pecked at my fly, none of which connected. A few needle flies about and small sedges but the fish were not interested,
Access: Right bank lower beat is best reached by walking down the road into village and going through the second field gate on the left. This will bring you out in the second field shown on the map at the start of right bank beat. Don't be tempted to go down the steps and gate on the RH side of the bridge which it leads to a barbed wire fence. The RH bank has trees all along its length so you need to wade out to avoid the trees. A mixture of rocks and gravel so wade with care
I did not try the LH beat. The path is above the river and looks difficult for casting
The LH upper beat is a joy to fish by comparison but a pity no rising fish. Looking at my fishing diaries for 2000 onwards there were few blank days. There were also two families of goosander's in residence. The scenery as ever is splendid Hope to try this beat again.
