First time on this fishery the river is running very high and fast. I walk the whole beat first but was unable to tell where the swims are, I attempted to fish in one possible swim using meat but got snagged and lost tackle on the first two casts so packed up.
Parking at the bottom of the hill is pretty muddy and the hill out slippery, ok in a 4x4 but would not try it in a 2 wheel drive
I will definitely be back when the river is lower and the weather better.

A very muddy but rewarding day on this beat.
River was 2.8m on the Lydbrook Gauge and water still carrying a fair tinge. I think with a bit less water pushing through, perhaps 2m on the gauge this would open up a lot more of the swims for Pike potential.
The very first cast of the day (just after dawn) resulted in Pike rolling near the surface when chasing in a deadbait while on the retrieve. The next cast, leaving the bait in position, ended a take no more than 2 minutes later: most likely the same fish - a decent, solid Wye Pike of 14-15lbs in the net, which unfortunately we were unprepared to photograph.
A hour or so later in a different spot another quick take from a Pike of around 10 lbs was landed (photographed).
Some good action and a satisfying result from a long days effort of scrambling and sliding the banks.

2 barbel caught, tricky conditions both fish to one angler on large feeders and pellet as hook bait. Terrible and dangerous banks and only a few swims accessible, this wasn’t too bad for us as we were all in our early 20’s but would not feel comfortable taking my dad or anyone not so good on their feet to this venue.

Fish were caught on boilies and pellet. Lost a few fish too. Good days fishing considering the conditions, fished this beat a few times and it never disappoints. Biggest barbel 8lb chub 4lb.
