2 Trout

Pretty good conditions, saw one very large trout but no luck. Two trout caught, quite small.

Lovely location but fishing was hard. Many thanks.

Weather sunny and bright,water clear and fast (and cold) only 1 small grayling and a salmon parr caught all day. Not much fly life about and nothing rising.

Lovely sunny day, no fish raised, seen neither hooked, not a single one. Next time, maybe.

Very clear, very bright, very cold but beautiful - We didn't catch!

I love this stretch. The Irfon was carrying a couple of inches but running clear, with a few leaves trundling along the river bed. The fish were in very good condition but lightly hooked. I'm sure I missed plenty of bites where the grayling just have that glancing snap at the fly. A small red tag on the point got their attention. Can't wait until next autumn!

3 Grayling

Blank for grayling; 20 odd out of season trout. I may have jumped the gun a bit here and started a day too early. Water still high (0.65), running clear, and much, much colder than last time I was able to get into the river. All the accessible grayling holts seemed to be occupied by mostly small and definitely unwanted trout - twice I had a double hook-up. Meanwhile the target species was keeping well out of the way. Still, it was good to be back on the river. Try again tomorrow.

Hooked and lost one good fish, during a brief rise between 1pm and 2.30pm.

The river had dropped further but still high with some colour. Had to work hard for our fish. Nymph produced nothing but there was the odd fish rising very occasionally and if covered with a very small dry fly they usually took it, although not all were hooked. Three rods ended the day with 8 grayling, average size well over 1lb, with two best fish 2lb 4ozs and 2lb 2ozs. Difficult fishing but good fun and a pleasing result.
