Fished dawn till dusk on fly, not much doing apart from a good fish showing at very bottom of the beat and a solid pike that got me thinking. Superb spring day with the river in great nick, great to be out!

11 landed and another 8 missed chances. Consistent trickle of March Browns from 10am-4pm, the most prolific hatch being at about 1100.

Not much surface activity but the fish still rose freely to the dry fly in the faster riffles especially.

The biggest two were battle scarred old brutes and with very worn fins akin to a stocked fish - not expected in an Usk Brown, usually fin perfect.

First time at this lovely brook - advice was fish early in the season before it gets overgrown.
The farmer has done some bank clearing but still some bramble to contend with in places.
Looks like classic dry fly water but nothing rising so euro nymphing was the order of the day.
This worked well with Two nice fish netted one 8” on gold bead PTN.
Parking note, park in front of the old tractor shed just past the house and not in front of the house - as requested by the farmer.

The river was low and clear and looked very beautiful. Weather cloudy in the am and sunny pm. Water temperature 12C, 54F. Wading precarious in places. 8 trout, 4 on dry flies, 4 on nymphs. The best was a terrific fish of 17", estimated just under 2lb. (Apologies for the old currency. Most of the action was before 13:00. Only saw 1 MB and one LDO ! Only 3 fish seen rising.
The track down to the river (in dry conditions) is now part of a field of wheat. I parked beside the canal.
Lovely day.
