Hooked a salmon around 8-9lb on a goldhead nymph. Played it for about 10 mins and it released itself. One out of season brownie. No grayling to be seen anywhere. This beat used to be full of fish. I’ve fished this beat twice this year now and not a sign of a Grayling. I think some investigation work needs to be carried out. I won’t be returning anytime soon.
Lovely day out though.

Early rain followed by a gloomy day but just great to be back here. A few hours trotting, mainly half pounders but 1 big lady made my day.

No fish today, despite seemingly better conditions than yesterday (with an extra 4" of water and zero leaves). Just shows that "forget the forecast" is very true... I shall be back next year :)

Al Ward landed an 8lb Cock fish from the head of little Glaswyn on a orange & red CK fly - his first Welsh fish. The fish was quickly measured and released strong.
Paul Richardson lost an acrobatic hen fish in the tail of the next pool. Perhaps a future Spawning pair? No redds visible yet, other fish seen at the top of the beat.
Charlie the Riverkeeper was delighted as this is the 1st Salmon caught here in 5 years.

Cold start to the day ( 2 degrees) but cloudy and not a breath of wind which is perfect by me. River low and clear but no fly life and I never saw a rise all day. Caught fish from most spots except the long glide on the open field which is normally quite good. Pestered by the oos trout later in the day ( even had two on a once ! ) but one was 18" so I didn't mind that one! .Fished nymphs all day, the biggest grayling was 15" but half of them were quite small.
