Miserable conditions with freezing rain and 40 mph gusts fairly constant. Far from ideal for trotting and most wouldn't of got out the car but we were rewarded with fairly constant sport. Brownies beat the grayling to the bait in virtually every swim we tried and at times it was a fish a chuck. Trout caught was an estimate, likely more.

6 x grayling 6-17 inches, 1 x out of season trout 16 inches, trotting. Hard work to find fish this morning in what was very raw weather - just above freezing and with a bitterly cold wind. The river was clearing, but still rather high. However, there was the odd individual grayling to be found here and there and a couple of them were good ones. The post-spawning trout attacked double maggot while it was being wound back upstream.

River very clear. Fished for 4 hours so didn't have time to explore the whole beat. All fish caught in the lower half. Three good fish of around 1.5 lb. A lovely setting.

Another very enjoyable day on the Irfon in near perfect conditions for the time of year. 21 grayling between 2 anglers. River at 0.4m on the Cilmery gauge, overcast, dry and little wind. Grayling were very localised with the majority of fish coming from 2 spots, having tried a large number of likely looking areas throughout the day. Trotting maggots - plans to use the fly rod were abandoned when waders sprung a leak at midday. Saw a salmon jump at the tail of one pool and an otter surf down one of the falls. Largest grayling about 15 inches and many around 12 inches.

Lovely day but nothing moving and no hatch. Tried every method known to man but nothing, must be losing my touch! Still, lovely to be out on such beautiful river.

Not a good day on the fishing, couldn't find a grayling anywhere on the top half of the beat. Undoubtedly employing the wrong tactics. A great day out on the river though.
Two OOSBT swiftly returned.

Great day. Weather perfect, wandered down to church, trotting today, 12 grayling and one old lady estimated around 2lb, very good condition.

23 x grayling 9-17 inches, 10 x out of season trout 6-10 inches, trotting. A quiet day except for interfering trout, but as the levels dropped off the grayling suddenly came on in the hour before dark. Several nice ones and a lot of good 14-15 inch fish. I carried on until I could no longer see the float.

Trotting with red maggots. Cloudy with occasional sunny spells, light wind, mild @15C. River in good shape and not too much colour. Fished from top of the beat down about 3/4 of the beat, a long stroll back to the car at the end of the day. Not much happening despite best efforts. Did get 3 grayling all 10 -12", each in different spots. Went very quiet after 2pm. There is a very well defined riverside path that has had an enormous amount of work done on it which has vastly improved access, which is greatly appreciated.

This was a bad miscalculation on my part, probably due to becoming desperate for a bit of river fishing. Given a river level of 0.90 at Cilmery and falling slowly, plus a Metcheck forecast of not too much in the way of showers, I booked on at Cefnllysgwynne in the hope that it might be down to 0.80 or 0.75 by this morning, just about viable for trotting from the bank. Wrong on all counts! Metcheck was wrong about the showers (BBC had it right), it rained heavily, the river rose rather than fell and coloured up with plenty of debris - gauge at 1.67 metres by this afternoon.
