Well , my last stream session this week !!! First things first , water temperature ...I dipped it on two occasions, both at 16.5 degrees ...So yes, this is definately my last stream session, till this bloody intense weather breaks, and we have a good rain storm ..... looks like the weekend maybe ....
I fished early bells 5:40 am to 8:45 am... Twas lovely first thing, with a heavy dew down, and fog like pea soup !!! Fish were still keen to nail a dry .... some upwings on the go from half six ....superb !!!
The river this year seems in dam good condition to be fair....lots of bugs and insects under stones, and, i don't think I've seen so much small fry in the river... its busting this year !!!! Boades well i hope ....
Seven made it to the net, usual stamp for here, quickly released....It seems like tommorrow is another cooking day too!! Christ, the Met Office "App alert" punter must be working overtime ...Amber this, red that... for god sake, its just Summer, get on with it !!!!!
Anyway, a quick, early sortie on a local beat....Fun, fun, fun ..... Back to The Ponderosa, and a nice fab lolly ...sorted !!! I have two gents postponed for river days .... Patience is a virtue I say !!!!

Hard day fishing does not help anglers when dog walkers throwing things in reservoirs so dogs are in water but nice day out

Decided not to fish due to extreme heat red warning. This follows 3 days of amber heat warnings. So decided to survey and find the parking areas of other beats that I have booked. Thought of going back to do a late evening session. Do like this fishery But it was just too hot still. Will be back.

I suppose when booking beats 6 months in advance you never know what the weather will be. Hottest day of year so far and an absolute belter., but first of all a huge thank you to CB from Bradford on Avon for suggestion of taking a rope.
I bought a rope, took it but didn't use it to access the swim, but very useful when I fell in, complete with ruckbag. There was 3 foot drop from river to bank, an undercut bank, and soft mud/silt to stand on. Impossible to get out. About 10 yards downstream a tree and fallen into river giving a space to get out and crawl up the bank with the help of the rope and Chris pulling me in.
I will be taking a rope whenever I fish the Wye in future and also ensuring that there is at least 2 of us fishing, just in case.
As for the fishing we tried different swims, tactics and baits but couldn't buy a bite.
Great beat, shallow at best of times. Please also remember to print off latest beat details, which I hadn't, and of course the code to enter the beat has changed. A huge thank you to WUF / Alison for answering the phone and giving us the correct code.

Fishing:Trout (River)

Hadn't fished Creggy for about a month, so, an early one was done on this old favourite ....half eight till half eleven .....
Reading 21 even when I parked ip at 8:15am !!! Was going to be another toastie one !!!!
Low and clear, with wading like Neil Armstong on the moon !!! The fish were quite happy to smash a well presented dry, in the streamy stuff ...
I temperature dipped the river when I started at bang on half eight ...Reading 13.5 degrees....I was good to go !!!!
Lovely aggressive hits in the pool heads today, and i only fished up to Glan Edw farm then cut out inti the field, where that heat really hits you after been under the cool canopy of those long glides .....
Eight to my net, the usual stamp for Creggy ....And, three more that did their Houdini impressions at long range !!!
A fun session, nice to see the dippers so active, but was saddened to see , near the bottom of the beat, the farmer on the other side of the river has dumped a huge load of brash over his stock fencing, into the river ... nearly filling what was a lovely trouty pool, where the stream joins the Edw ....Shame, and very thoughtless to be honest....I'll email Allyson with my photos ....
Otherwise another three hours in paradise... happy days!!! Back here when its had a drop of rain......
