Grayling to 17" and 2 x oos Trout

2 Trout, 10 Grayling

This has got to be one of the greatest and biggest beats for grayling I have ever fished, within the first few casts I caught a small grayling and a larger one was landed a few casts afterwards. throughout the day I landed 2 small grayling 3 medium sized ones at around 20cm 2 large grayling at around 30cm with one being slightly larger than the other and one good brownie that was about 35cm. I fished a 2 fly Czech nymph rig the whole day with a pink Czech nymph as the point and a size 16 tungsten headed pheasant tail nymph as the dropper, all the grayling came to the dropped and the trout came to the point fly. All in all this has been one of the best days fishing I have ever had, I broke my Pb for grayling twice and also for trout.

Tried many different strategies but to no avail. No rain for several days found wading very dangerous on bedrock. No fish caught other than a few very small trout no bigger than 4 inches in length. They were taking dry flies. 1 Salmon spotted rising to surface and dropping back into pool. Lovely setting shame the fish were not playing!

Fished up the upper part of the stretch without much luck then fished it down with wets. Successful flies were March Brown and Red Tag, particularly the March Brown on the top dropper. Also had three out of season WBT and numerous grayling shoats, all returned.

3 Grayling

As there has been no rain to speak of again this October, I thought I'd try my luck here as the season goes on for another week. I'd hoped that salmon had reached here and there would be a chance. I saw not a single fish of any species all day. The bedrock that is exposed is difficult to traverse and in higher water would be lethal! MD signing off for another season..... :(

Well I have not fished here before and it is a lovely stretch of water. the grayling were not up to much, french leader, czech nymphing, dry, they were just not having it. the 4 to hand were 10-18 inches. Water was crystal clear and running well but nothing happening in the feeding lanes. a few rises but very very small fish splashing at olives. But I must admit its a wonderfull piece of river and will have to give a few different areas a go next time

Water gin clear and a harder day. Water dropping and fish difficult to locate. Good challenging day.

Challenging conditions for me. River very high and very coloured. Lots of the usual autumnal leaf and other debris.

Had a great morning with 1 trout and 6 grayling czeck nymphing in the church pools and below the rapids. Afternoon was a washout as there was heavy rain and the river rise by 1.5 ft. Left at around 14.30 as unfishable

Beautiful setting for spending a day. We had sunshine in the morning with grey skies and rain coming later in the day. A couple of fish were caught early on with hot head nymphs but for a long stretch afterwards there was no sign of life. Despite no natural rises, fish could be tempted to go for grey duster variants which accounted for the latter 2 fish.
