Beautiful day. Lots of kingfishers. No fish. Enjoyed it immensely!

Cold windy day, lots of recent rain but the Irfon does drop and fine down quickly and it did exactly what it said on the tin.
Small mixed hatch, trickling off throughout the day. Dry fly for a couple of hours and rewarded with 2 wbt and 1 grayling. All around 10". Went very quiet so decided to kink and dink and took two more feisty grayling on the klink!
Have become a bit of a small stream man over the last few years but today Cefnllysgwynne reminded me how exhilarating it is to hook and play a decent fish in a wide, deep, pristine river amongst stunningly beautiful landscape.
A spectacular beat. So much variety and so much to learn. Definitely a work in progress for me, I'll be back.

Did not fish, the river was up and colored from the heavy rain. So fished the lakes up in the Elan Valley. It probably was fishable so did not ask for a wash of.

A very hard day. No fly = almost no rises. The wind probably didn't help fly emergence either. About half of the few fish caught were risers, the rest not. Nothing on nymph. Virtually all fish were taken on size 20 dark or pale HE emergers. Trout from 9-13" and grayling from 10-15". Sadly, the largest of the grayling had probably the most serious, likely FEB damage on both flanks, that we have seen. Hopefully he will repair. A plucky fellow for sure.
We also caught a lot of small 3-4" grayling which, it is to be hoped, is good news for future stocks. A lovely beat as always.
P.S. We would strongly recommend, if parking at the middle of the beat, and after fishing The Grandstand, to avoid attempting to walk up the old path alongside the river to access the upper part of the beat. The felling of the trees two years ago, and consequent absence of tree canopy, has let so much light in that bramble growth is rampant = serious trip and wader hazards! Instead, by-pass this by walking back to the car park and taking the track upstream instead. If the owner / river keeper don't do some strimming / spraying here soon, this will quickly become a very productive and very large bramble patch!! Tight lines.

Good day on the dries, water at good height and running clear. All the trout taken early on, biggest been around 14" others between 6" and 10". Biggest grayling 16" others between 6" and 12". Fly other day was a para reddish brown pheasant tail. Various flies trickling of during the day, Caddis, LDOs, BWOs Iron Blue duns. The top half of the beat is starting to get overgrown with brambles which isn't good for the waders and I lost the path a few times.

First time on the Irfon. Blown away by the beauty. River very low. Only a few small fish rising. Iron blues hatching. My thanks to the beat owner. Very impressive. Feels lovely and wild but good access and no barbed wire in sight!

Water slightly high and stained when I arrived but clearing during the day. 4 grayling to 15" and three trout including one at 17" & one at 18", the latter a cock fish with quite a pronounced kype. All on wet Coch-y-bonddu or parachute Adams. Amazing to see such good trout but worth also mentioning the following day on the lower Cammarch Hotel beat (not through WUF) when a dozen to the same methods included one 20" Brown, the biggest I have seen on the Irfon.

First of all, may I say, what a stunning place to be. I think my brother spent as much time taking photos as he did fishing. Water levels were very low and very few fish were evident. We did manage three very small trout between us although that was more by luck than judgement. Just a phenomenal place to be on a Sunday and we will be back (when there's a bit more water!)
