Fished this beat for grayling last winter and had a great couple of days. Always wanted to return in the summer months for some trout fishing. I fished with my father in law Steve Cox. We both hit into fish very early on fishing the Klink and Dink, i had 3 knocks and a fish to the net in the first ten mins. As the sun came over head it got a bit harder, but just meant we had to search the water for fish. We fished until 15:00 and had 6 fish between us.

A lovely relaxed day on a fascinating stretch of water. Apart from being a little cooler than we'd hoped little breeze and overcast conditions raised expectations. Fish were rising sporadically but more consistently after lunch. Personally I landed 2 good grayling and a fine trout all in the 12oz to pound and a half range while others in the party fared similarly and we all had stories of numerous missed takes. Pockets of rising fish took small dries enthusiastically when located and the deeper sections responded to sparse nymphs fished slowly.

I caught 3 trout biggest one was 40 cm. I caught them all with a Red Butted Hare's Ear with a 3 mm copper bead. Did not see much fish coming on top of the water. Some insects in the afternoon. Thanks mister Picton you were very helpful.

Struggled today. River in reasonable shape, but fish not cooperative. Managed one 12" trout on a baetis nymph and missed a take on small klink during a brief hatch of ldo.

I spoke to Mr Charles Picton the day before fishing and he said that there was plenty of snow on the mountains around, but optimistic as ever we set off in pursuit of trout. We fished the lower section and covered the water with various nymphs, there were no fish rising, and no signs of fly activity, 2 1/2hrs and nil. Lunch then we moved to the upper section and 2pm a few LDO'S appeared which started a few fish rising which we both covered with various presentations, but alas the fish were just not in the mood, with the water level low and gin clear, the first time a blank for ages still a very pleasant day on the Irfon with my Son, we will be back.
