River running at 2.5m so pretty high and fast. Caught in the bottom field after Heartattack Hill. Sadly lost 3 to the bankside undergrowth when they dived into bushed at the last minute. No sign of any barbel and also very quiet on the Kingfisher front. Pellets and meat both worked.

Not the best of days to be venturing out with early rain giving way to strong winds and showers. River was very high and coloured, 2.25m at the Mordiford gauge. Started at the furthest upstream end as there seemed to be a little bit of slacker water inside... but no bites there. Then moved over the hill and fished in the swim at the downstream end of the first field. Flow was fiercer here but eventually i started getting some interest on meat close in. Fully expected eels to be the culprits but eventually hooked and landed a modest chub. That pattern continued through to the early afternoon, ended up with 6 chub from that swim, all on meat. Biggest about 4lb but most around 2lb. The vast majority came from under my feet but i did also get a couple of bites further out and down a bit. Would have preferred to move around a lot more but the swims in the woods were unreachable in the high water and many of the downstream field swims were just too treacherous to attempt with liquid mud in the heavy rain. Tried pellets and boilies but nothing showed any interest. Will definitely return here in the simmer. I'd fished here before but never ventured much beyond the wood and it looks like in lower conditions you'd be spoilt for choise.

River up around +2.2m, so fished downstream of the wood. A few swims in the first field, but in the second, could do with one or two more swims being cleared. I think there was one at the top near the gate, then a double swim towards the bottom of the beat.
3 Chub caught all very close in, due to river really pushing through. Biggest was just over 4lb.
A lovely looking stretch, will be back when river has fined down a bit.

Another revisit to one of our favourites. Fownhope has been good to us in the past, but today she offered a very different skin. Dropping after floods, the river looked good, but offered very little. We fished the top field, as the wooded lower area, was fierce, and would require gripper leads and a wet suit. We both fished feeders, and I also used the straight lead to 5oz. Groudbait was smelly and baits were pellets of all sizes, and meaty. Stuart also piked fished, but had no runs.
Difficult day, but managed a few chub, and a Dace on maggot. We Will obviously be back. Cheers Wye & Usk

Arrived at the river 6.30 to see the river flowing at a fast rate with a dark brown quality . (Didn’t think it was a good sign and maybe a hard day fishing) but nevertheless ended up to be a successful day with three Barbel caught between the times of 8am - 10am one chub at midday. Fish to 4 o’clock. Did lose a lot of tackle. But a successful day. Slight rain 4pm onwards..

With the river at 3.3m we took on the hill and found only one decent fishable swim. With the river so high we had to settle on three fish and losing a fish last cast that went off like a steam train. In the last hour before dusk, barbel were porpoising all over the swim which meant we left a little frustrated.
