Both fish around the pound mark and caught on cdc shuttlecock emerger. There were a few groups of rising fish in the channel of the lower part of the beat but they were extremely spooky. Getting within casting range was possible but as soon as the fly went over they stopped rising, despite a 17ft leader and what I thought was impeccable presentation!
An enjoyable evening nevertheless.

Water was very low and clear but arrived early afternoon to see plenty of rising fish.
One trout and grayling pretty quickly in the faster water but the others would just disappear when we got close. We could see the shoals of Grayling swimming around in the deeper channels but no interest.
Best fish of the day came from just downstream of where the small stream enters the river, a nice fat 20 inch trout.
After 3 o’clock it started to get quiet with only one more trout and grayling. Hooked and lost another 8-10 though.
Odd that even though the river was very low there were a lot more little side streams running then we’ve seen before. Saw the usual kingfishers and dippers and an excellent day to be outside. Thanks very much

River was in pretty good conditions, although the level is now dropping a bit. Clear water, so hard work to find the fishes, but I have rewarded with 6 graylings, and all over 2 pounds. Fished again with French nymphing tecnique

river a bit high and run fast. Lots of flies but no fishing rising. Used heavy nymphs and landed a beautiful BT of around 4 pound, and other 7 (probably few more) graylings, all around 1 and 2 pound. Most of the graylings caught in the pocket water.

Very tough conditions with the river getting low everything seems to have gone on hold . There was very little fly life coming off and only a few rises all day. The French leader saved the day with some good sized oos grayling and trout from 12" to one very chunky 18" fish that put up a tremendous fight. A large otter passed by on patrol, I have seen more of them this year than ever before and not one mink which can only be a good thing. I think a few alpha predators are better than a gang of little trouble makers.

My first time on this lovely, varied stretch of the upper Wye and it won't be my last. I've read a few complaints about access in the past if using the upper parking spot but if you follow the instructions and walk down the track rather than the river, it's pretty straightforward.
However, it was a frustrating day. Fishing from midday to about 6:30pm, there was no shortage of fly life (steady hatches of 3 different types of olive) nor rising fish but I struggled to get them to take my offerings. I heard today that some Usk trout were on the aphids over the weekend - perhaps these were too?
The fish were mostly in the slower water mid way down the pools and in the tails. I rose a couple of good ones to small cdc emergers but missed them both before landing three smaller trout up to 9" in faster water that saved the blank!

First time on this beat but with the weather being so hot knew it would be difficult. Fished the lower beat and found parking and directions easy. Was amazed to see how clear the water was and could have been on a chalk stream. Access is not that difficult but wading is a must. Fly life was having a field day but the fish stayed away. No takes but will return later this year.
