Another new beat for me today. Parked by the foot bridge and started walked up on that side of the river. I just couldn't find anywhere to access the water though. Tried on the other side of the bridge and eventually found some limited access but it was very difficult. This compounded with wind and lots leaves in the water made fishing quite challenging. No sign of Grayling and only a few Salmon Parr to show for my strenuous efforts. I think a more detailed map might have been useful and a few signs dotted around to give some confidence to someone new to the beat.

Poor day, river rising and coloured due to persistent rain overnight and early morning so deep nymphing the order of the day unfortunately without much luck. Only one small out of season brown trout 8 ins taken, few fish missed, still always good to be on the river on such a beautiful beat. Access to river on top beat much easier if you cross footbridge at car park and walk down the lane to the right bank, good directions on beat map.

Good day with above average temparatures so plenty of hatches, mostly pale watery´s and dark olives, some sedge. 4 grayling taken on cdc emerger, largest to 1 1/2 pounds. Small out of season trout to about 1/2 pound taken on weighted nymph. Water a good height and a lovely time of year to be out on the river, even the sun put in an appearance early afternoon which triggered some good hatches and plenty of rises! Many fish missed probably due to my slow reactions but grayling can be tricky to hook on the dry no matter how quick you react! Great day once again!

This was my first time winter grayling fishing on first time on this stretch. On arriving at the upstream beat I couldn't believe how stunning the place was, I was lucky enough to have arrived on a cold, slightly misty but sunny autumn morning which helped but the river looked spectacular.
I started fishing near the footbridge and was soon into a grayling on a goldhead but it slipped the hook soon after. I much prefer to fish with dries and as the map showed foot access all the way back to Newbridge I figured I had a lot of water to cover so set off along the path, unfortunately the path is at the top of a steep wooded slope and access to the river very limited and precarious, the path then seems to come to an end at a house in the woods. I did eventually manage to get back into the river and thought I'd make my way along in the river instead but this was slow going due to large slippery rocks amongst the stone and gravel river bed. I did find some fish topping and after quite a bit of manoeuvring I got into position, by now flies were hatching and fish were taking all around me! After changing flies a number of times I hit on something the fish would take and had 4 lovely grayling to about 1lb in quick succession which made all the effort worth while. I then moved on and found another fish taking flies off the top and presented a fly which it took first time, this turned out to be a beautiful out of season brown trout of around 2lb.
This really is a stunning location, I did get a little frustrated I couldn't get further downstream, I found the fishing difficult but very rewarding, I thoroughly enjoyed my day here.
On returning to my car I met another angler who'd fished the stretch for 30+ years who told me I should have crossed the foot bridge and tackled the river from the other side. He also told of 2 and 3lb grayling, I shall definately be back but next time I'll be crossing the bridge to see if it makes accessing the river easier.

Beautiful waters in perfect conditions. I could only fish from 10am to 1pm in a very clear but very cold morning (3º when arrived there). No activity on the surface (still too early) but lots of fly life during last hour. Extremely nice beat.
