River was an unattractive brown colour and quite a lot of weed beds now. Weather overcast and warm. Started with feeder and pellet but not a touch so changed to meat. This brought one barbel and (inevitably) a couple of eels. Moved to some faster water and had two more barbel and four smallish chub, again on meat. Barbel were all around the 6lbs mark. The winter floods of about three years ago destroyed access to many swims below the island and the bottom field is infested with campers, so there is now much less readily fishable water.

We fished with cage feeders and 8mm pellets on the hook close to the near bank, hard work but ended up with 3 barbel to 8lb, once again river slightly high with lots of loose streamer weed making fishing conditions very difficult.

A very hot, sticky and uncomfortable day for fishing, standing in a hot sun all day, without any sign of a breeze. Following the recent floods, the rivers now beginning to fine down to noted summer lower levels, with numerous plume's of streamer weeds now showing. Despite me having doubts on whether the fish would feed, quite surprisingly in part they were there.

Fished 2 x 8mm hair-rigged halibut pellets behind a pellet / hemp / groundbait 50g feeder from 5:00am to 11:30am (6.5hrs), with fish taking from the start, with a lull in feeding through the middle, and then a pickup in action towards the end. On two occasions, a chub took my bait as it hit bottom, and before I got to put the rod on the rest. No photographs or fish weights were taken in that heat. The fish were netted, unhooked, rested in the net, and released promptly each time.

River level at the Ross-on-Wye gauge (Friday 4:00am) - 0.53m; weather - sunny all day, 24C, no breeze at all. Netted 1Nr barbel circa 6.5lb (lost 2Nr others), 18nr chub (lost 3Nr others). NB: A few salmon showing up and down the river.

Tight lines everybody.

Very hot day, the chub seem to be holding their own at the moment. Lost a massive eel at the bank.
