With the good river level and mild weather continuing I was looking forward to fishing The Creel with the hope of finally doing it justice, having had little reward on my previous visits at a beat that clearly holds plenty of fish. Starting off in the church field, a barbel first cast gave me hope, but this was short lived as two hours later I had failed to register another bite. A move further down the field did not produce any bites either, so I eventually settled in a swim well below the island. Regular baiting soon resulted in another barbel, which was followed by a steady succession of them until it was time to pack up. I ended the day with 8 barbel to 9lb 10oz. Single 8mm Sonubaits oozing pellets proved the most successful bait along with hemp and pellet in a feeder.

The river looked perfect, just over a meter on with a good bit of colour. Fished swims throughout the beat bur struggled to find the fish. All fish caught were in absolutely pristine condition. We are still seeing too many cormorants on this river

Struggled to hold position even with six ounce feeders, but G O managed to catch his first wye barbel so not a bad day after all.

First time on this beat and pleasantly surprised with easy access and parking and lots of good spots to choose from. I fished the upper section and my partner tried the bottom stretch. River was quick requiring heavy feeders to hold station and a little coloured, falling about 6" during the day. 3 fish taken on pellet around midday and one on flavoured meat at about 5pm. Nice way to end the season.

A quick check of the river gauges and webcams on-line prevented a wasted journey, up and coloured would put it mildly!
Still, always another day…
