Had a great days fishing but unfortunately both of us blanked. Not sure why. There were a lot of fly activity but only the occasional rise and despite trying patterns at all stages nothing was taken. Still a lot of water coming through and tricky to enter the river. Will look at returning here later in the year when it warms up.

Lovely day, and great to be back at the river. Waited and waited for a fly hatch, but none came. Just a few isolated flies, a couple of which wee taken by trout. But not mine!

Day 2: It felt much warmer than yesterday. A couple of hours spider fishing proved futile.

It was a case of patiently waiting for hatching flies. There was a decent hatch of March browns from 12:30' to 13:00'and then some carried on trickling in the afternoon. Fish were on them, but tricky to find an imitation they liked.

One of us had the misfortune to rise 6 fish and miss all 6, and one of us stalked a serious fish in the 3lb class for over half an hour, hooked it and the hook came off during the ensuing battle. At end of the day we had 4 trout in the net.

The Usk is certainly a river where less is more. It is not about quantity of fish, but quality.

Glorious Spring morning with the brook at a good level. Birdlife was just marvellous with the smell of wild garlic adding to the experience. A little cold perhaps but first outing of the season lifted the excitement of being there.
No fish seen but managed to winkle out a couple of beautifully conditioned trout on nymphs. One 6" and the other 8". Both returned. Access to the brook was easier given the time of year but still managed to find the not so elusive "tree trout" on several occasions due to my limited casting and concentration skills no doubt even with my 6ft fly rod.
Thank you

Another sublime sortie on a local stream !!! I took my partner along, and Dawnie loved it ...Shes an outward bound kinda gal anyway, but the dry fly action, she was well and truly hooked !!!
Fab sport between 11 bells and 2 ish .... Mayfly , Large brook duns and medium olives on the bounce from midday ...
Smaller trout, still a bit bemused with the bigger fly, but, small dries still getting nailed with vigour ...Theyll soon zone in on thr juicy mayflies !!!DHE and para Greenwells were getting smashed....
Sixteen to my net, with maybe a futher eight that wriggled off !!! Ohhhh well, thats how it goes sometimes hey ....Frantic sport, and I'll be on another local stream on sunday ...Happy days !!!
Fish between six inches and perhaps eleven inches, great fun, and superb takes today ...That balmy, muggy, insecty weather, you just know is going to make for a dynamic dry fly session ....
Three fun hours, then a cracking ice cream sat outside on the benches by the Crossgates garage.... Doesn't get anybetter than that I'd say .... A sublime session, in fantastic company ..... lovely Jubbley .....
