Fished the creel Tue/Wed/Thur.
Tue - 2 Barbel, 1 other take which did not connect. First a beautiful fish of 11 lb 6 oz, Second another nice fish of around 8 lb (not weighed).
Wed - 1 Barbel of around 5 lb (not Weighed), 1 other take wich did not connect.
Thur - No fish a fairly short session with no action at all.
River conditions on arrival were surprisingly low and clear although up around 3' on the Wednesday morning with more colour and a bit of a push. Thur the river had dropped back about 1' + and river conditions looked ideal. Air temperatures were cold especially on the Wednesday when I don't think the got above 3. Also very windy especialy Tue/Wed.

River was clear and looked good, flowing a little faster than normal, not a big problem but the overnight temperatures were low and a cold easterly wind was biting, even the geese and swans had found the water too cold and had moved onto an adjoining field to warm up.
However I persevered and fished feeder with maggot, meat and pellet hook baits but no luck with anything, except one bite on pellet which I missed as it came as a bit of a shock after 4 hours without a touch. I should have brought some Pike gear & bait as backup.

Fishing was very slow. River approx 3 foot higher than summer time. I tried maggots, hemp, boilies but I didn't get any bites. I changed to krill dumbells and I managed to catch two chub 4-5lb and one barbel 73cm. I didn't weight my barbel.

Arrived at the river expecting the worst after all the flooding elsewhere, but it was in surprisingly good shape - high, but very little debris coming down and very fishable. It was warm, sunny, and a gentle breeze, so ideal conditions for this time of year. Fished feeder with pellet with no action at all during the morning but had two barbel lunchtime, 10lb 1oz and 7.5lb. Thereafter quiet for the rest of the day but two barbel at this time of the year is a result...!

The river was was very high with lots of trees and branches floating down after the high winds. Unable to hold bottom with a heavy feeder but did manage to find a slack close in and caught two chub and an eel on meat. A hard day but nice to be out. Thanks.

Conditions not ideal after a sharp drop in temp overnight combined with a gusting wind and a fair amount of debris coming down the river which meant we couldnt present the bait for more than around 10 minutes at a time. Nevertheless the water level was up, had a nice colour and we did winkle 5 barbel out, upto 9lb 12oz. all to feeder/pellet/meat tactics. The great thing about fishing the Wye is that it always leaves us wanting more....will be back next year.
