Good fishing weather on the Usk and plenty of fish feeding during the 3 hours that I fished. Fished only dry fly and one trout to net and missed 4 others. For other reasons, I was not as well prepared as normal and time on the water was curtailed. However, a better fisher, better prepared would have caught many more as the conditions were pretty good although the water was quite low in places.
This was my first time at Dinas and at least as an occasional fisher on the USK, this is not my favourite place to be due to the proximity of the roads. Cannot complain about the fishing itself.

A bright day with a clear river and an easterly breeze. Thats the excuses done! Little by way of consistent fly life … occasional olives snd March browns and hawthorns. Jim managed to winkle one 9”er out although the sheep were not impressed …. The two he let go with long distance catch and release when the light changed in the evening would gave. Ren much better. We had another James out with us, first time on the Usk, no fish but thoroughly enjoyed the river.

.76 on the gauge sunny and warm fished top of the beat for first time am, most of that water accessible and fishable at current levels and flows, patience & caution rewarded with 3 fish 10 - 12 ins from edw pool and below taken sub surface on weighted hares ear and spiders . Further down the beat hatches of fly life smuts/midges and small sedges blown upriver on the wind midday to late afternoon rising splashy youngsters - great fun fishing drys, couldn’t tempt any of the better fish from their lies. A great day on a great beat - thank you.
