Have never fished the river this late in the season but decided to give it a go as had a day off between work trip commitments. The temperature dropped yesterday for the first time this winter so expected the fishing to be very difficult which it was. But perseverance paid off as managed two chub at the end of the day on feeder with double 8mm red robin pellet on the hair. River very big but not roaring. Always a pleasure to be on the Wye!

Heavy overnight / early morning rain pushed water level up 2 to 3 feet, which made for difficult fishing. No barbel but the chub made it a resonable day.

River still quite high but dropping. Good day had even though the barbel didn’t really show which was a surprise given the conditions. Chub caught from every peg we tried. All fish came to feeder and meat.

First time at the creel. River swollen, but mild. Tried opposite island but no joy. Moved upstream and despite difficulty holding bottom, managed to get 4 x barbel on meat. Nothing on pellets
4 Barbel
