Walked the entire beat and fished the swim with most flow but with very little result - bright conditions did not help

The river was very low again, but it was a cloudy afternoon, so there seemed to be a chance of picking up a barbel. Some chub bites and three fish to start with, but the swim switched off around 18.00 and there was nothing more. I moved to another swim but that was equally fruitless. Light rain began to fall in the evening and became steadily heavier and with no action I decided to pack up at around 20.30.

Fished various pegs on the Church stream with most success coming at the lower end. Small pellet found to be the best bait...

Water clear and very very low! Barbel 5lb came on cage feeder.
All the chub gave us great battles heading for the streamer weed which was good to see.
Being a Saturday we had what seemed to be hundreds of canoes so packed up at around 3.

First day back after heatwave, this seems the place to go for chub biggest around 4lb , good fun in the lowest levels I’ve ever seen.
