Unfortunately our day was cut short as one of our party slipped into the river and hit his head on the rocks and it was necessary for us to take him to hospital

Another enjoyable and successful session on a W&U stretch which again was a first for me here. Parking and access is straightforward and a decent amount of swims available though how some would be in the wet could be a different story. A warm day with the river low started about 1.30 and fished until 7.30ish. Tried a few swims and ended up with 7 chub to 4lb+ and 3 barbel to 6lb+ taken on a variety of baits inc corn, pellets and meat at one point the chub taking baits on the drop . The usual flotilla of canoeists during the day but caused min disturbance. Would return here especially with a bit of water on

The Wye was quite low with bit of colour. Weather was cool, cloudy and breezy. I made my way to a swim in the last field where there was quite a good mid-stream flow. I had not fished here for several years. Started fishing about 15.30 with chub bites from the off, though quite a few missed. A barbel came along in late afternoon but its mates must have moved on. I changed swims for the last couple of hours and caught another barbel , but again just the one.

The "other"? This was a very feisty perch that brightened up an otherwise quite ordinary day. Its behaviour was most un-perch like; I hooked it in the middle of the river in the fastest water on a static halibut pellet. I did not weigh it, but it was a lovely specimen that must have been very close to 2lbs. It's surprises like that that makes fishing so absorbing!

River holding steady but low with brown water. The fish never really got into feeding. They were there but it seemed like they were having an off day. I feel spoilt sometimes when I consider 30+ good sized Chub and 7 Barbel an off day. Great looking place and plenty of good water to go at.
