We fished the Taf Fechan section from Vaynor church down to the viaduct, using a 6ft spinning rod, #14 flashy bead head nymph and a split shot. I had two tenkara rods with me, 12 & 13ft but these were obviously too long, thus the jimmy-rigged spinning rod with fly set-up. Tried casting upstream and drifting down and had a couple hits but found it easier to cast downstream and work the nymph back up. Landed two beautiful browns, 8 and 10 inch, and had many more strikes. It was actually really surprising how well the spinning rod/fly combo worked as I've definitely never tried that before. Was in awe of the beauty of this stream, and the incredible markings on these wild browns, not to mention their feistiness! Will definitely try to fish in Wales again in the future!

Fished the Taff By Vaynor Church a lovely very peaceful setting. The river was flowing well considering the lack of rain and there was plenty of fly life. I used a damsel nymph, adams and a humpy but saw no fish and caught no fish. From experience I know there would be fish in this river but I guess it was not my lucky day. Very hot day and if I was a fish I would under the rocks or under the bank so I guess that is where they were. The foundation do excellent work thank you, the map sent was invaluable in finding this fishing spot.

2 6" fish taken on a buzzer; another 6" taken on a mayfly. Fishing from Quakers Yard. Our first visit to the Taff and we were both very pleasantly surprised by the peaceful setting - we will be back!

Today there wasn't much fly life about so i fished Klink and dink/NZ style. They were obviously on the nymphs as every pool and pocket of water my flies were in I was hooking fish big and small. Managed to catch 30 plus fish from 1/4lb up to 2lb plus 18 inch fish. All wild fish and all released.

Fished the upper Taff from the RSPCA centre up towards Merthyr Town. Lots of midge, ldo's and brook dunns on the water with fish feeding on the surface in every pool. The river looks in great shape since last weeks flood with hardly any algy on the rocks. Managed to catch a 21 inch, 19 inch fish and around two dozen fish up to 1lb on dries and nymph's.

Surprisingly few trout rising, given the conditions. Could see plenty in the clear water though...

Fished the river from Abercarn up. At the start there was not much ativity on the water so opted for klinkhammer and dink And managed a couple of small trout and salmon smolt. Later on in the day around 2nd a good hatch of ldo's and brook dunns were on the water with fish rising in a feeding frenzy. Managed to catch a couple more decent fish with the biggest being 23". The river is in a right mess at the moment due to low levels and idiots not taking their rubbish home with them. But what do you expect from an urban river??? As for tips for fishing the Taf Farw and Taf Fechan... I would use a single klinkhammer on a 7 ft 3# rod fished up stream keeping very low whilst fishing pocket water being big boulders etc. Remember these are the wildest fish and you only get one chance with them. Please email myself if you need any more information on daniel.1986@live.co.uk.
