Welcome overnight rainfall; river rose 7-10 cms and a good tinge of colour. Plenty of surface activity but, once again, no luck.

Welcome overnight rainfall; river level up by about 10cm and a nice bit of colour; some weed and vegetation coming downstream. Five small chub in a hectic three-quarters of an hour spell in the early afternoon; all on hair rigged 8mm pellet. No joy on luncheon meat at all.

River on the low and clear side; some interest in surface flies but no connections. Lovely setting as ever - thoroughly enjoyable.

First visit to this beat on the Wye, lovely water but very overgrown banks and access points, late start at 9am on beat 1 downstream from toll bridge, first cast with pellet feeder and boilie produced a small chub of around 2lbs, all set for a good day and then the canoes started!!
Impossible to keep a line in the water as the tally was 50 canoes/rafts from 9:30am to 12pm when the heavens opened and I gave up! Did try rolling meat under the far bank but due to the traffic only had a bait in the water for a few minutes at a time....understand that canoes have a right of access but the general behaviour was appalling, have fished other Wye beats and in general canoeists have been respectful and have tried to cause minimal disturbance, when I tried to ask (politely!) that passing traffic keep to the middle of the swim was offered various replies ranging from the "middle finger," banging the side of the canoe with their paddles as they passed through the swim to offering to land so we can "sort this out properly"!
One party of 4 teenagers actually decided to beach their canoe right next to me so they could go for a swim even though to my right was a stretch of shingle beach which stretched for several hundred meters, even had to help rescue one child when they capsized in front of me (not wearing a life jacket). No respect and no consideration at all, I understand that we have to share the river and Sunday was always going to be busy but will not be returning, shame as Terry was very helpful when we spoke and the stretch is lovely.

Another tough day followed much the same as yesterday with a low clear river. Having found only a couple of productive swims the previous day we managed 4 barbel between 5 of us but with only 2 small areas producing we squeezed in together in the productive swims. With the river this low there were not many swims to go at (you could see the bottom and lack of fish present in a much of the stretch). Lovely place to spend time watching the salmon leaping but not overly productive in, granted, not great fishing conditions.
