I like to fish this beat in lower levels so as to gain good access to the upper pools. However the flow was so low that there was barely enough to work the nymphs on a long leader properly. I did manage a couple and lost a couple more. Latter on in one of the lower pools fish started showing themselves, cruising around picking at a variety of pale wateries, needle flies, caddis, the odd olive and terrestrials blown from the trees.Out came the dry fly rod and a size 18 'F' Fly or a Griffiths gnat worked but presentation had to be spot on. Nothing of any great size, up to 14" with a larger fish pricked and lost, but great fun.

Stunning stretch of water, lots of features - thoroughly enjoyed being out here in the glorious weather today. Quite wild and, as per WUF notes, not an easy wade - more water might have helped with fish but would have made getting into viable positions even more tricky in places. Managed 5 on nymph (duo), up to about 12". Lost 3, which might have been closer to a pound - one right at the net. Quite a lot of fly life, but very sporadic rises made it tricky to target fish. More patience needed.

This was our first time on this stunningly beautiful stretch of water. If only it fished as well as it looked. It was a warm bright day with low and crystal clear water. Fish moved sporadically but there was absolutely nothing we could pass over them which would persuade them to oblige. I had one take on a black parachute from a good sized fish that rolled over, spat out my fly and was away. Nil return.

Cloudy day just under 20C. Caught two small trout on pheasant tail nymph. Only a few lazy rising trout seen all day.

Bit of a guess on the total but it was into double figures. Started the day off badly; snapped the tip of my main rod unpacking it, luckily i had a long line nymphing setup with me too so that limited my tactics for the day. All but 1 fish taken in the morning to a pheasant tail Mary. Fish ranged in size from 6-14 inches. I'm a bit rusty with a long line leader and missed lots of takes plus quite a few came off the hook. Lots of hatches during the morning but very few rising fish, there were some salmon (i think) leaping out of the water every now and then. Only 2 or 3 takes during the afternoon, only 1 of which came to the net.
