Very windy day making fishing very difficult!

7 trout up to 13" , all caught on nymphs.
Some flies about but nothing rising.

All fish taken on emerger patterns. They seemed to be very fussy and not fully switched on to the hatches.

Perfect weather and conditions on a great WUF beat. There was an Olive hatch and rises when I started fishing at around 11am but it had finished an hour later. I picked up a nice 3/4 pounder in a streamier run on a gold headed nymph. Stopped at 2.30 and came back at 7.30 pm. What a wonderful evening to be on a river like the Usk. Still, warm, overcast with fish rising. Despite the riseforms looking like they were feeding on emergents, it wasn’t til I put on a small pale olive dry that I tempted another. Stalking, and rising and landing a WBT on an evening like this is perfection. Thanks to WUF for such a great beat.

Quite a chilly day with a brisk wind seemed to put the fish down with very few fish rising despite a reasonable amount of flylife on the water.
Had 3 on a flash ptn up to 14" and lost a few others.
Found this beat quite challenging compared to others I've fished on the usk but very enjoyable all the same.
As noted in the write up the wading is a bit hairy in parts! Caution required.

Great day on this beat. 4 fish caught on Mayfly, one on a PTN. 2 fish lost and lots of takes missed! Will definitely be returning to this beat!

Fenni Fach is one of my favourite beats, but it can be hard work. And yesterday was no exception. Good looking water, lovely weather, plenty of flies, but no fish. After 3 hours it's amazing how encouraging a 2½oz trout can be! That's about the size of both the ones I caught. Must have been doing something wrong...
