Day two of the Usk reccie and another stunning stretch of water. Fished from car park 3 upstream through the wooded section and there's some fabulous runs and pockets for the speculative dry here and this did result in a 1 pounder (on a CDC & elk) that thought it was 2 pound, or on steroids. Fantastic condition and colours it was. Beautiful woodland on the right bank section up there too, a pleasure just to be there .
Very little rising today but nothing substantial hatching though and what was rising looked they where on needle fly and the flat glide immediately down from the car parking area (great hardstanding here BTW) had a lot of fish sipping away but after a couple of fish, eventually, to a tiny F fly I gave in and headed off away upstream.
Lot's more to do here and seems fantastic value for money to me and one thing that did strike me was the clarity of the water (some of the long pools and runs are hugely deep!) and also the sparklingly clean condition of the river bed in many places. It was a joy to be standing in the river casting a long line when its like this. The same applies to Pantyscallog too and turning over the stones reveals very large numbers of tiny olive nymphs (next years adults ?) and cased caddis/stone clingers, some pretty big ones too.
Can't wait to explore more and hopefully with a hatch on too. Its going to be fun, lots of fun.
Thanks WUF

No fish seen nor caught, nice location. I chanced upon a canoeist putting in at parking spot 2 despite river not at allowable level.

Water was still high from the rains on Friday and very little fish moving or feeding. Only the one small trout for the day on a GRHE nymph was returned.

So much for the warm, sunny forecast. It rained most of the day and at times was torrential. This was my first time at Sennybridge but much of the river was too deep to wade and the rain made it impossible to see the bottom. The bedrock and sudden drop offs are dangerous in those conditions and I fell in twice.
This was a hard day all around and I was surprised to catch the 4 fish I did. Only fished the lower half of the beat which took most of the day. The river here is stunning but getting into good positions to cast and wading close to fish nymphs is difficult. Will try again in more favourable conditions.

Late afternoon start on a warm overcast day. Wholly anticipated a wait till later for action, but surprisingly on arrival they were a few fish rising. After a few fly changes and spooked fish due to the low, clear water I connected with a lovely 12" fish around the pound mark on a #18 pale watery para. Took another two similar sized fish over the next hour or so, again on the pale watery. A good rise of fish later in evening in all pools, but failed to keep any on after numerous fly changes and rejections. Just couldn't put my finger on what they were feeding. Possibly very small needle fly, which are virtually impossible to imitate. Good evening.

Beautiful day, with river in good condition. Plenty of fly life in the several pools below the waterfall near the farm with many rises in the glides. One small brown trout taken on dry fly & released, but otherwise no response to either wet or dry flies.

Misty start to the day with no fish rising. Decided to fish the duo and contacted and lost 3 fish in the first ten minutes. No being to disappointed I carried on and took 5 fish to 14" over the next few hours. A few missed on both flies, but an enjoyable day.

Fished the afternoon. There was an olive hatch at about 2pm. Caught on klinkhamer style greenwells. Missed a few others and frightened some as river was clear. This happened mostly in the flat watered parts of pools. A relaxing few hours in the company of a couple of soaring red kites.
