A difficult day, fine weather with good hatches but no fish rising. First trout caught on a red neck ptn fished on the duo early on. Other two fish caught late afternoon both from fast deep water at the heads of pools on heavy nymphs fished on a French nymph leader. No other fish seen all day, maybe still a little early this far up the river. Still an enjoyable day on a stunning beat.

Water low and clear on final day of 4 day trip for weary fishermen. All blank. Some timid rising but very spooky. Packed up early at lunch.

Cracking day - lots of tugs but no fish. Still a top day. I will be back for more and want to see what else is on offer in the area.

First time I had fished this beautiful beat. It looked full of promise but, in the event, I saw very few fish all day. Those that I saw rise were frustratingly unreachable and the day ended blank.

Lovely stretch of river, real stalkers paradise, if you are any good at it. There were several large fish seen but I get the feeling they saw me long before I saw them. I got two small trout on a small nymph under a klinkhamer but nothing else. I did make a mistake and took a 7'6" rod. I think given the water clarity, how spooky the fish are, the need for long casts using a long leader a 9' rod or even longer would be much more useful.

After some good sea trout fishing on the Usk the night before maybe I wasn't putting my back into it. Some huge fish spotted in the big pool a couple of hundred yards downstream of the bridge between upper and lower beats but I could only tempt one of the smaller ones, 12". Worth a second visit I reckon...

The river was fishable today and as a result I was able to pick up loads of small brownies , nothing bigger than 1/2lb but all gladly taken. No larger specimens seen all day. All fish taken on size 16-18 nymphs fished on a French leader.

Hard yards today on the Usk at Cefn Rhosan Fawr. No fish and not even a tug! Windy and water coloured after rain, but not too high. Some sporadic's hatch and some sporadic rises but nothing tempted to either wet or dry fly.
However, a nice and varied beat. I only did the bottom 1.5km so will be back to try the rest.

I checked the camera at Brecon a little after 7am and decided to try this beat for the day. However, when I arrived in Sennybridge just before 9am the river told a different story. It had risen considerably and taken on a lot of colour in the space of 90 minutes. So unsure what to do I decided to hang around for a few hours and see what happened. By 1pm the river level had dropped approx 9inch but was still quite coloured, I decided I'd get kitted up and give it a go. I fished the backwaters and creases with heavy nymphs until 3pm but to no avail. As this was only my 2nd time on this beat I was reluctant to wade to far into the river to try and access better water due to it's speed and lack of visibility. Due to family commitments I had to leave shortly after 3pm but I'm sure given better conditions this would be a superb days fishing.
