Arrived in light rain and the first juicy looking pool directly opposite the meadow car park has a nasty looking grey brown slick down the middle and smelt of effluent (AKA sewage ).
Went upstream and sure enough just below the confluence of R.Senni and R.Usk an orange pipe firing out volumes of said effluent with lots of small suspended solids and small bits of paper. This created the unpleasant slick and the smell. Back to the car ( walked past the sewage pumping station!) and found a water bottle and filled it with the pipe discharge ( hmmm enjoyable). Note this was NOT surface run off of which there were others nearby of a totally different colour, smell and free from suspended solids.
Went to the bottom of the beat some 1.5 miles downstream and managed to catch one small trout but my heart not in it so went to find a phone to report the pollution (mobile forgotten). EA Hotline poor as they required a postcode or street name to identify the area.
Otherwise this would be a lovely beat but is now spoilt for me.
In three years this is my first genuinely adverse experience of a WUF beat. Shame.

WUF note - We have followed up this report and the EA are investigating immediately, 16th Aug 2012.

Conclusion to report - EA sent an officer out late on the night of 15th August following the initial anglers report and located an overflow pipe that belonged to Welsh Water. It had become blocked and wa discharging sewerage into the river but has subsequently been jetted and cleared.

Even with the conditions and water perfect we found it hard to locate the fish. 6/7 brown trout to 12" to hand and approx the same on long distance catch and release. Possibly the water levels were a bit to low. All fish caught on heavy beaded nymphs or spiders.

I am a relative novice and did not catch anything but I did have the pleasure of a otter swim right by me and then took himself off into the bank, gobsmacked!! beautiful river, thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thanks WUF for all your hard work and to Dai for the advice he gave me, I'll be back!!

Well there is never two days the same!!!! Conditions were perfect, water clear and at good height, but where were the fish? Very little fly life on the water and what was, was minute. Fished hard all morning concentrating on spiders and nymphs but to no avail. Decided to fish the dry fly "small adams" and took three 10" browns fishing the rifts blind also a few small salmon parr. On the whole a disappointing day fishing wise " probably just me fishing poorly", but fantasic surrounding on a beautiful beat. Will be back!!!

Hard to know what to say... a stunning Beat, Easy wading, clear water for the best part of the day. Some small WBT seen rising but not a fish caught between 4 rods, which was a little dissappointing. But then that is why it's called fishing and not catching!! Sure to Return!

First time fishing this beat and I was not disappointed. 5 B.Trout to 12" and about half dozen small feisty Salmon parr. The water level was good and the clarity in the faster water was excellent, but the deeper slower glides were a bit cloudy. The best method was fishing ptn and spider "waterhen boa" duo down and across in areas where this was possible. Later in the day dry fly was effective "tan klink" to fish rising now and then. Plenty of fly life, caddis, upwings and big yellow sally mayfly. encountered quite a few goosanders.
On a whole a fantastic day and I will be back thank you WUF.

One fish of about 12 inch was caught on hares ear nymph. That was the only fish we got close encounter in the day and it was returned safely. The day was beautiful and the water was crystal clear. We could see fish but it meant they could see us too. Tough fishing.

River in lovely condition. Only managed to fish for a few hours in afternoon. No rising fish and sadly drew a blank.

13 WBT between 2 rods, all 6 - 10 inches. River not too high and wadable throughout. Dry caddis patterns worked from late morning onwards.

First time on the beat. With that little bit of extra water on it was a very demanding day. It was however rewarded with a day out in a very beautiful almost Jurassic part of the country. Unable to stay late so missed out on the best. Fished dry sedges all day with 3 trout to 10 inchs.
