Managed to get a few hours in to round off the season. Weather was much cooler than previous day, around 13c where it had been 19c, not sure if this had a bearing but did not see much fly life at all, a few off the water but very little. No luck at all on dry, did not see a rise or a fish. Towards end of session switched to beaded nymph and picked up on wbt, a bit less than 1lb. An enjoyable few hours and just as I was leaving spotted a big salmon in the middle of the beat just down from the bend, if anyone is there over next few days as water level would need to rise for it to move up stream. Thanks WUF for another good season.

A field of very inquisitive mixed heifers followed me to the water's edge. Much of the beat is a high near vitical bank which gave a great view of the river bed, as the water was the clearest I've ever seen. Several trout were stationed close to the bank. Unfortunately, with the interest from the heifers casting to these was out of the question and ladning the fish would have been challenging. I finally entered the river towards the bottom of the beat after some bushwacking at just about the only accessible point protected from heifer interest by an electric fence. Here the river is knee deep and quite quick over small boulders, so wadeable with a staff. When I arrived back up at a point where it might be possible to reach the fish I'd seen earlier, a strong looking dog otter pocked his head up no more than 8m away. No fish caught.

Very tricky day. Got there early, one or two trout rising but no interest in what I was offering. Too hot by 10:30 so went to enjoy the Brecon Beacons. Returned in the evening, hoping for a hatch, but no luck.

Just three hours on the water, 6:00am to 9:00am, due to other commitments but it was a surprisingly good three hours despite the continuing low water.
Second cast at the lowest end of the beat over fast water and the first trout. Not one to boast about at around 6-8oz but still encouraging. Moved up river and despite the galloping heifers making the ground shake I was into my second near the head of the long pool. This one just over the 1lb mark.
A little further on and after thrashing my way through the undergrowth making so much noise I thought the fish would have scampered all the way to Crickhowell but was just able to cast over a willow branch and into the next small deep pool and almost immediately bang - a good fish was on. I was using a 10ft #4 rod with a 3lb leader and this guy just wanted to get into the willow roots. Really thought I was going to lose him when he changed tactics and made a dash for deeper water. Took several minutes before I got a glimpse of him and I had to jump into knee deep water without waders to keep him from dashing back to the roots. A lovely spotty brownie of around 2lbs. I have to admit I thought it was going to be a little bigger by the way he pulled but not at all disappointed.
So fish can be caught with crystal clear, low water after all. Well pleased after all the blanks so far this year!

One trout around quarter pound. Very low water with little movement save for dozenss of damsel flies. Beautiful demouselles are really appropriately named. And it is still a joy to be on the river.

Very quiet, difficult access, didn't see a fish all day. Needless to say, nil return. Disappointing.

Access to river difficult due to high bank and cattle fence also surprised to see so much rubbish in the river (old tyres and farming plastic bags). Very little action during the day but I managed to catch 3 very small trout in the evening. I think £25 is overpriced for this sort of fishing.
