Second visit for the weekend as there is enough water to play with. Only 1 small trout on trad wet flies and a monster chub on tight line nymphing which took a size 14 Red tag. This was my third chub from the Wye but was my PB at 3lb+ and just about fitted into the net. Was in great condition and was returned safely. Day was made easier with pre-tied casts - Rig Winders purchased from Angling Active. Saved the day and a great way to store your casts when finished. Also had a surprise air show from a WW2 fighter flying over head at 2.30pm, all white with a red nose.

Weather helped with a overcast sky but of course river in need of water. Regardless of this enough water to play with and Ciliau Falls & Ciliau Run fishable. Hooked and lost two good fish on trad wet flies on the swing. Only managed a Salmon Parr which saved a blank. A lot of green weed in shallows so be careful.

Another hard day with low water, bright sunshine and minimal fly life. Managed to winkle out 3 small trout from the streamier sections on nymphs (black perdigon & the ever faithful copper john) and a chublet on dry fly.

No fish this time but what an amazing place to spend a summer evening.
Beat was easy to access and offered mixed waters to keep the fishing interesting.
I will definitely recommend and be back.

1 beautiful small salmon parr late on as sun was setting at top of beat where cletwr joins the wye - returned straight away happily darted off. Wet fly. Even though had rain earlier water was low with very little colour. Plenty of decent sized trout rising / jumping later on as well.

Spent 2 weeks at Ty Newydd and have had some very good day's fishing. Have had to avoid some very hot days except early mornings or dusk. Only a few fish caught to dry fly's in the evenings. Otherwise, weighted nymphs in fast moving water was the most successful approach. Some rain early 1st week of July boosted water levels for a couple of days but now very low again. Daytime water temperatures 17-20 degrees.
