Arrived hopeful that the change in weather and the forecast rain and storms might get the salmon moving, but when I saw how low the river was I immediately wished I’d put a trout rod in the car!
River very low with green slim in the stiller parts and hardly enough flow to swing a fly through.
Pleasant enough day though having a picnic with my better half.

Arrived around 5pm , easy parking in the locked area (keep an eye out for the gate)

Stunning river , both of us fished either a duo or bug bug under an indicator . The grayling were liking the deeper faster runs , where the trout preferred that day the smaller eddies . Lots of insect life , a stunning location to spend an evening .

My first time back at Ty Newydd for a while. I prefer the new parking arrangements; but it was hard work today on a low, clear river. That said, it was a mighty confident angler making his way up river after four Trout, two on a nymph and two on a dry, in the first hour; rising fish, from shallow water, tight against the left hand bank above the Bachawy. There were a few flies, including mayfly, hatching at this time but, as the wind got up, the hatch petered out; and I was not to see hide not hair of a fish for the rest of the morning. Only fished up to the Gravelly Run. A pleasant chat with the other angler on the beat, before having it away home for my wife's pancetta wrapped, stuffed chicken breasts (that's my evening meal in case you are wondering) and the Euros

Fished for trout. Bright sunny day, no hatches no rises but had plenty of fun running nymphs through the faster sections of water, all fish about a 1lb and in great condition. Bumped into someone taking a dip in one of the prime pools, but wouldn't hesitate to return to this lovely section of river for trout or salmon.

At last it has been possible to fish at Ty Newydd! I needn't have bothered though... The rise in the water level that happened on Sunday/Monday turned the water to broccoli soup. I couldn't see my feet when wading. I did catch a few small trout but no sign of salmon at all.
