Today was about how many fish i missed! Oh, for some more talent! I had takes from about 30 fish but most got off or I didn't hook properly in the first place. Talking of those that got away, I caught a 2KG trout... and guess what happened....

A stiff downstream wind made the day feel much cooler than it was with intermittent rain in the morning and early afternoon.
Reasonable numbers of upwings hatching but no interest from the fish. We had a couple of grayling (12" & 14") from the bottom end of the beat on PTN and a large black nymph followed by a couple of decent pulls in the Cillau falls, but nothing else at all after midday.

A salmon splashed once in Erwood Pool mid-morning. It wasn't tempted by any of my offerings, unlike the trout. There was a steady drift of mayfly on the cool breeze and this intensified for the evening rise. A frustrating session where the trout seemed to play with the fly - too wise for an artificial pattern it seemed. A very enjoyable day on this lovely beat.

Note - the boards are treacherous in places (rotten). They ought to be replaced. Come on landowner(s)! - a little bit of investment this summer will prevent avoidable accidents.

WUF note we are on the case.....

Well, to put it bluntly, a fantastic day of fishing. Worked the pools and pockets all the way up the beat with the grayling seeming particularly lively today. Managed to get a double hookup at one point too, a first for me. 28 fish netted.

Note: One of the boards on the boardwalk midway up the beat seems to be almost 100% rotted through. Look out for this board because unless its replaced soon it'll give way and send you tumbling into the river!

Mainly cloudy with the odd sunny spell, i did see the ocaisonal rise not entirely sure what species though. Landed 2 small trout circa 8' inches and 2 tiny course fish . Size 16 olive emerger. Enjoyed a few hours of piece on the river.

A quiet couple of hours, again with just the otters for company. Very low water levels and bright conditions made for a quiet start, but a sizeable Grayling on a Klinkhammer Indicator at the bottom of the Bathing Pool made up for things. I fished the right bank this time and directions and info were spot on.

The weather was beautiful, clear skies and hot. The scenery was as ever stunning. Always lots of interesting wildlife and vegetation to study. Flies were hatching everywhere, but the fish were sulking.
One concern I have is the number of fry (thousands) trapped in pools which will dry out if rain is not forthcoming. It would be worth speciating the fry trapped, and to make efforts to return them to the main flow. Perhaps the WFU could pay a stipend to a zoologist to take on this task. You would essentially be re-stocking stretches with wild fish.

Very bright sunny conditions. Not much fly life showing and hence only a few fish rising. Did manage to get a take from a nice trout but lost it. Using nymphs.

Be very careful turning into the beat, access is on the brow of a hill along the busy A470. You can just about clear the road with the nose of your car kissing the gate!!! Pulling out not much fun either. Probably worth mentioning on the WUF instructions.

The river was a really comfortable height so the beat was very accessible and wadeable. 10 wbt caught and returned, 8" to 14", caught mostly on weighted nymphs. A trickle of insects - mostly Olives of various sizes - picking off all day but not much rising. Lovely beat, lots of variety, wished we could have fished longer.
