Hot and sunny, very low water, stacks of mayfly coming off during the late afternoon and evening, nymphs and Gray Whulf’s the flies of the day.

We had the whole beat and three of us fished it but its coming up as one rod only here. We also got 12 trout but can’t enter double digits!

A fantastic days fishing, and although fish were rising to a Klinkhammwr, most fish were liking the nymph.
This water does need some knowledge and will challenge you! Thank you WUF for making water like this available.

No fish were taken. We only fished dry flies and had success with Mayflies and Adams Irresistible. We thought that the water might have been a little high and coloured.

After watching the forecast for the bank holiday weekend change from glorious to miserable in the week running up to it, we approached the river with some trepidation. Arriving early, there was a spell from about 08:00-08:30 which felt warm with plenty of fly life. A few splashy rises led to one nice graying on a cdc olive. A cold wind then whipped up, all fly life disappeared and the fish stopped rising which presaged a couple of hours of rain and thunder. In between hiding under trees, we switched to nymphs and had a reasonably steady spell with a few more decent sized fish.

After the storm, the sun came out and the water came alive with bugs, but the fish weren't keen to oblige. A few splashes at various Adams, olive and March Brown dries didn't result in anything sticking and our nymphs were ignored. Around 16:30 we suddenly had 4 in quick succession on a Pale Watery, then all was quiet. Fished until dusk and saw some enormous mayflies, but not much was rising and what was seemed to be going for something we couldn't see just sub-surface.

A good day all round with plenty of variety.

7 graying around 9"-17"
4 trout around 5"-11"
All returned.

Weather was very warm with bright sunshine. River was at the perfect level but with a cold wind. Mayfly hatch was limited and only a few fish rising but they showed little interest in anything I could offer. One small brown trout 4" and a 6" Grayling.

Glorious day in the stunning Wye Valley, warm and sunny with a gentle breeze. New parking arrangements are simple but what a shame to loose the terrace overlooking the top of the beat enjoying a sarnie and a glass of wine!
River as low as I can remember but still a challenge to cross lower down the beat. A mixture of flies trickled off most of the day but nothing to get the fish rising so spent the day changing tactics from nymphing to dry to clink and dinking. We caught and returned 10 fish between the 3 of us. 9 wbt and 1 oos grayling. All returned safely. One or two big 'uns including the grayling. Most fish taken on weighted nymphs but one angler persisted optimistically with a dry fly (probably an Adams knowing him) and was rewarded with 2 wbt.
The beat is comfortable for 3 rods but I personally would not fish it with more on a slow day like today where it paid to cover the water.
