Fishing:Trout (River)
You needed to be down a bit in the morning and graying and trout were caught bugging in the faster runs. In the afternoon a few fish were showing and we caught on small nymphs and spider patterns.
The river is very low but the fishing was fun and it was a great day to be out. None of the fish caught were large but all gave a good account of themselves on light tackle. Lots of par around which were difficult to avoid.

With my usual haunts sadly devoid of water I made a rare foray onto the main river. No shortage of water here, Ty-Newydd is an impressive expanse of river in a beautiful location. I was eyeballed twice by members of the otter family and witnessed acrobatic salmon in Erwood Pool.
With little happening on the surface I stumbled on a successful formula; a weighted PTN and a Hare's Ear Emerger fished together on a short leader through the riffles. Both flies took fish. Most were small with half a dozen in the 9"-10" range.
A great day out.

River was very low and clear. Weather overcast. Very little feeding seen. A few fish viewed but they were generally uninterested in what was presented to them. One bite on a nymph, but not landed. Lovely beat though.

As usual, Ty Newydd produced the goods. The day started off with quite a heavy fog but the sun soon took care of that and from then the temperature was positively summery! A lovely 1lb grayling was the first fish to take the size 14 Golden Shrimp. My partner in crime, on his first visit, had a number of small browns and parr before getting his first decent grayling of just under the pound. Plenty of fish up to lunch, about midday, then after that, it was quite hard to pick up even a take! Only a few more fish were taken before we packed up about 6pm. The river was quite low and clear but the faster water and gullies held plenty of fish. If we had landed all the lost fish and takes, the return would have read about 60 or 70 fish between us. Stonkin'! day!!
