One decent 16" trout landed and two others pricked. Like yesterday (Abercynrig) river very low, rises were sporadic and hard to cover in clear conditions and downstream wind. Tried everything but I was found to be lacking. Sometimes reasonable hatches but fish largely ignored top of water. Caught on a copper beaded dark nymph with no name from fast water. One seriously fat fish and the river and wildlife were beautiful.

River running at 1ft, which made getting around fun, but worth it, Usk always seems to fish well with some stain, a gold headed fly with a fluro red tail did the business, making it stand out well, catching in sheltered water. and quieter water just off the main stream.

Late arrival, fished for a few hours from 6.30 - 9.30pm. Two fairly small brownies in the last half an hour - virtually in the dark! Both on a size 14 Grey Wulff. Such a crazily pretty succession of pools and runs - always a pleasure to visit this special spot.

Fished the evening after six o'clock. River running low with plenty of boulders sitting proud, but enough deep water pools to show the evening risers. One small brown trout caught and one 5lb plus jumping in front of me in a middle pool. Lovely beat to share with the local heron.
