Sometimes you have to forget the distance travelled and the cost of the trip and just put it down to experience on days like this. On arrival the wind blew so that I chose to move my car away from under the trees at the lower end of the beat! Gave the river here a go (you know what we're like) but was beaten off by the elements. It was a case of thinking that the wind had dropped but upon re entering the river your cast came back at you faster than you could get it out. Never mind, another time eh? Note to J S, perhaps the conditions failed the cigar and brandy being waded out to me ! Lol.
Thanks to all at WUF, another enjoyable escape.

Guiding the Young family. 6 x trout 12-14 inches on various dry March Brown patterns. Fished between 10 and 1, and saw a trickle hatch of march browns coming off every few minutes, along with a few grannom.

Lovely Spring day for first outing of 2015. Low water, bright conditions and picture perfect. Nothing much doing until brief and concentrated hatch of March Brown (?) brought up trout. Driver error and lost in the moment conspired to make a mess of it! 2 trout hooked, played and long-distance catch and release. All good, until demand of Six Nations took over.
Thank you to the kind Glanusk Estate Shepherd who recovered my phone later in the day!

A lovely early spring day with large dark olives, march browns, red kites and daffodils. Acquaintance made with three charming brown trout of 15", 12" and a fine 18". A great way to start the season. Some while since I last fished Glanusk. It's a pity about the increasing urbanisation: sign posts, rubber safety rings etc!!

This was my first time on this beat and it was a real pleasure. My brother and I had the whole section to ourselves. In the morning we fished upstream of the bridge and around midday there was a great hatch of dark olives. It lasted 25 minutes but trout showed mostly in medium to shallow water areas. We caught two on dries. In the afternoon nothing much was showing so I fished with a beaded pheasant tail nymph and indicator and had six more whilst my brother had two fishing wets downstream. Most fish were around the one pound mark with a 15 inch one that topped the day. Great day, cannot wait to return.

Very difficult conditions on arrival at this beat. Very strong easterly winds with bright sunlight great!!!
But we did manage to get two wbt approx 2lb which was a surprise. Both on weighted nymphs.

No fish taken. Mostly small brown trout with a couple of larger fish to about 9/10 inches - all returned. Includes some small salmon parr. Most successful methods: small bead nymphs fished upstream and dry fly black spinner pattern.
Did not fish early or late. Lovely spot and great day out with entertainment at lunch from the wedding party - photos on the bridge etc. One of our anglers had his fishing disturbed by dogs and people swimming in the river and he left a message on the Estate Office phone. He has received a very helpful reply and apology. Apparently, dogs on Estate land should be kept on a lead and walked on the designated footpath which is not along the river bank.

Many thanks for a great day on a beautiful stretch of water (and another at Cefnllysgwynne). And thank you for a highly efficient service that is very easy to use.
I caught the trout (all between 3/4 and 1lb) on micro-klinkhamers during the day (nothing bigger than a 22) and a small elk hair sedge in the evening. All wild and exceptionally beautiful. None kept. But the real event for me was the chub, which weighed between six and seven pounds; one of the best specimens of any species I've caught. A real beauty, with bright gold scales. It took a small pheasant tail nymph.
The river was at a good medium height to begin with, rose and coloured rapidly after intense rain in the morning, then mostly fell back by evening. These changes of state seemed to affect the fishing less than the weather.
We camped at Park Farm, outside Crickhowell, which was fine.
Thanks again, and keep up the great work!
