Getting to the bank was not the best being only the 3rd day of the season the field is planted this year and up to the hedge
we followed the path made the day before. Having fishing the next beat down the day before and under the low conditions fished the fast water at the bottom of the beat.
Worked hard to catch, but we managed to catch through the day. mainly Chub in the 3lb size along with a good number of chublets the 2 Barbel estimated at 7lb and 5lb one on flavoured meat the other on sweetcorn both proved hard to land in the fast water from a difficult spot.
We walked the beat to look for other swims some good looking places to try with a bit more water on
Despite the conditions another good day

Chub in really good condition, plenty in the 4lb plus bracket.
Not sure where the description of 'good waterside' access came from as there are only 4 accessible swims unless your into abseiling..!!

Enjoyable day despite the wind and rain. Nice spot in the first field. Just a few silver fish on maggot. One bigger fish - probably a Chub- got lost in snag just before landing.

Nice beat. When we booked I hadn't realised that this is actually the opposite bank of the Upper Holme Lacey beat!

Most of the fishing is on the near bank, which makes for comfortable fishing when the river has a bit of water on. Access is good, although expect the usual steep banks. The one downside being the car entrance via the gate off the Holme Lacy road. Cars fly down the hill and I was really glad that I was fishing with a friend as he could check the way was clear before driving out.

Fishing was a bit slow, we expected more water to be honest, but a very enjoyable day nonetheless.

Really enjoyed fishing this new beat. Not many 'proper' swims and steep banks, especially in top field, but settled into a lovely. but snaggy swim on 1st (lower) field. 3 average size barbel (and 1 lost) and a couple of decent chub. Lot of perch activity during the day.

Nice stretch and will definitely be back and yes, getting in & out of the fishery is very dodgy !

Fishing Passport Note : There is swim 'maintenance' planned for the start of the 2021 season

Only had time for a few hours but had 2 chub both a couple of pounds and missed 3 or 4 good bites. Just stayed in the first field because of the cows but did walk along and had a look. There are plenty of pegs along this beat but most of them are quite steep and slippery but accessible. The river has plenty of water and appears in good order. I will return again to this beat I enjoyed it as I did upper holme lacy which is on the opposite bank.

Thanks to the previous anglers feedback, very useful. We caught 3 decent chub on pellet in the first field, water was about normal level & clear on a calm cloudy day.

Beautiful little beat. Took a while to suss out all the swims after getting into a discussion with an angler who was fishing in the private wooded section.

Anyway, had a small barbel 4.5lb in size at about 11am then biteless for hours despite trying moving and static baits. Picked a likely looking swim for last couple of hours and had a chub on meat about 4lb. The hole I grabbed Mr Chevin from turned out to have an enormous snag in it which snapped me off.

Retackled and recast. Nice hard fighting barbel then ran straight into snag and broke me off. Next chuck had a 5.5lb barbel on the bank. Just before last light had the best fish of the day, a fish which felt weighty beyond it's apparent size. Weighed in at 8lb 6oz, beautiful.

That was it.

Will be back, a gorgeous setting as almost every Wye beat is. Cattle were frisky and very 'friendly'. Got so close they licked my jacket and unhooking mat. They don't worry me as I'm familiar with them but be careful not to leave tackle like your rods on the deck because these little blighters don't care where they walk.

Lovely to fish a new venue despite taking your life in your hands at the ‘luggsmouth’ entrance. Travel light if walking to top boundary. River was in great condition. Fished float first peg into 2nd field and lost 2 very big chub on an unseen snag before the tree before catching 3 and a few nice dace. Bullocks turned up so went into cattle free bottom field where there is good access to the water. Had a chub and a barbel on the feeder on the crease then moved towards the bottom for another chub. Only swim I didn’t catch from was the nice looking but muddy one in the trees.
I’d like to go back and fish the float at the top end when cattle not present. Would fish well with water on I think.
Beware if you are on your own- leaving by car onto the busy road is dangerous-.use hazards and listen .
