First of 3 days on different beats, we had wanted to float fish the end swim but the river was still up, settled in the middle on the feeder until Glyn arrived and advised us to move further down, we ended with 3&2 Barbel to just under 7lb, river looked good and felt as if we should have done better.

Slow start but fish arrived latter in the day
Meet Glynn at lunch time confirmed we had selected the correct swims with the river 2/3 feet up coloured and rising. Most fish taken on ground bait feeder with pellets or favoured meat. Best fish 7lb. Good day Thanks to Glynn for his advice.

Walked the length of the beat and was dismayed to see that the river was well up and roaring through covering the rocky outcrops. Selected a number of swims near the Hut and rotated through the day. Caught all the fish in the first and last 2 hours of the day. Speaking with another angler on the next beat and he thought that the dams in mid Wales may have been opened causing the river to be up and really fast. Used 6 and 7oz feeders to hold bottom whilst streamer weed, bushes and branches came down the river. Lost 2 barbel in the current.
Swans were a nuisance especially the tagged Swan 35C so please give it my regards... also had an issue with 2 canoeists who were going against the flow and who showed complete disregard for me (both got a talking to) and the other angler displaying a complete lack of watercraft, hopefully they don't come back!!!

Because of a late get-away, we didn't get to the river until about 6.30pm. Our first visit to the stretch, access is lovely - we went down the track no problem and parked by the hut. Getting out was also easy enough, though it was virtually dark when we did so which makes spotting anything oncoming that bit easier (seen some warnings on previous reports).
A quick scout about found a swollen coloured river, which appeared to rise a little bit more in the few hours we were there.
Both anglers selected swims where a crease formed behind a (submerged) croy. PH didn't receive any interest, but JC managed a couple of barbel, one a decent fish that went 10lb on the nose. However, no specific feeding spell materialised, so we left at last light.
Heavy feeders with the usual pellet/ groundbait combo did the trick, with paste-wrapped 14mm pellets the successful hookbait.
Would love to visit again when the river is in a slightly more polite mood! Lots of water to go at, and I expect some great trotting to be had... just not in the kind of conditions that we found.
Onwards and upwards, How Caple Court would be visited the following day....

River dropping but still very high, but becoming clearer. All fish caught on luncheon meat. Met bailiff at river, he was very helpful. This has become my regular second day venue after a stop over. A good stretch.

River still up a little with some colour. We expected a very good day but the barbel didn't want to play. We managed 3 barbel and 9 chub mostly on pellets.

Yet another beautiful stretch of the Wye. Good access to the banks, lots of room to set up, good pace to the river. I get the impression this is a good salmon water with plenty leaping about, took me a while to find the fish moving up and down the beat but finally got some. All the chub were a good size, all around 4lb. Would have liked more barbel but was more than happy with my catch. I fished halfway between the pylon and where the rocks peak out into the river, this proved to be the spot. Nice venue great fishing.
